Does MRI have radiation?

The MRI that people often talk about actually refers to nuclear magnetic resonance. Nuclear MRI has a wide range of uses. For example, in medicine, it has become a very popular imaging examination method. However, there are many people who cannot undergo MRI examinations, such as those who are dying or have pacemakers. So, does MRI have radiation?

Does MRI have radiation?

MRI has a strong magnetic field, so you cannot bring in any magnetic materials or objects that will be affected by the magnetic field (such as metal). However, it is generally believed that MRI is not harmful. It does not produce any radioactive radiation.

Because of its generally harmless nature, there is no set time limit for doing it, and I have seen it done repeatedly over the course of several days.

Magnetic resonance imaging is an examination method that uses electronic computers to perform image analysis and diagnosis on human body cross-sections. It does not use X-rays but magnetic fields. Its basic principle is that the hydrogen atoms contained in the human body will resonate when given specific high waves under a strong magnetic field, generating a high-wavenumber electromagnetic wave. Nuclear magnetic resonance utilizes this property and uses electronic computers to collect, process and graph the changes in the magnetic field.

MRI can show fat, internal organs, muscles, fast-flowing blood, bones, and air, etc. The internal structure of the organs can also be clearly displayed. Doctors can easily identify tumors, inflammation, necrotic lesions, abnormal substance deposits, functional obstructions, blood circulation obstructions and other lesions in the patient's body. It provides great help in the diagnosis of various diseases of the nervous system, chest, abdomen and limbs.

Since MRI is magnetic field imaging rather than X-ray and is not radioactive, it is harmless to the human body and is very safe. So far, there has been no report in the world of any harm caused by the use of MRI machines in hospitals, nor has any increase in the incidence of gene mutations or chromosomal aberrations in patients been found.

What harm does MRI have on the human body?

Magnetic resonance imaging, CT and X-ray are known as the three magic weapons of radiology. When people mention radiation, the first thing that comes to mind is radiation. Especially for magnetic resonance imaging, since its examination takes a long time, people naturally think that it also has radiation, and perhaps the radiation is the strongest among the three. So does MRI produce radiation?

Magnetic resonance imaging is an examination technology that has emerged in recent years and is different from the other two examination methods. The imaging is done by using hydrogen atoms to receive radio frequency excitation in a magnetic field, causing resonance to produce signals, which are then processed and reconstructed into images. Therefore, MRI scans do not involve radiation.
