Why is my waist throbbing with pain?

Intermittent pain in the waist may be caused by lumbar muscle strain. Lumbar muscle strain has a great impact on people, and patients need to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time. Before being diagnosed, patients can also predict whether they have this disease by looking at some of the symptoms that may occur with lumbar muscle strain. Below, we will introduce in detail the symptoms and signs of lumbar muscle strain and treatment methods.

1. Symptoms and Signs

1. Diffuse pain

Patients often complain of diffuse pain in the lower back (sometimes including the buttocks), which is more obvious in the bilateral lumbar region, paravertebral area and sacral crest. Its characteristic is severe pain in the morning, which is relieved after a few minutes or half an hour of activity, but the pain seems to reappear in the evening due to excessive activity. The condition improved after rest, which is similar to ankylosing spondylitis.

2. There are many predisposing factors

Most patients have clear triggering factors for the disease, among which physical labor, physical exercise, excessive fatigue, moisture and cold are the most common, and similar situations often occur in their past medical history.

3. Point tenderness and subcutaneous nodules

Most patients can clearly point out their pain points (one or several points) with their fingers. In addition to local pain, pressure can also transmit pain upward along the nerve fiber endings distributed at the painful point, causing reflex pain in the adjacent parts of the area. For those with thinner skin, a nodular lump may be felt deep inside the painful area, most of which are smaller than 5mm×5mm in size. Sometimes, lipoma-like nodules with a diameter of about 1 cm can also be felt (often accompanied by radiating pain).

4. Others

Includes general symptoms of low back pain, among which stiffness in the lower back, limited movement and muscle tension are the most common.

2. Treatment Methods

1. Eliminate the cause

In addition to paying attention to the position of the waist and back during work and avoiding flexion that puts the waist and back muscles in a state of high tension, you should also pay attention to the rhythm of work. For work that cannot be performed in this position, you should choose a sitting posture that is more in line with the biomechanics of the waist and change it frequently. It is not advisable to maintain one sitting posture for too long. Doing calisthenics or back exercises similar to breaks between classes every 1 to 2 hours is very effective in preventing and treating this disease. In addition, corresponding countermeasures should be taken to address the impact of the climate environment, and prolonged stay in an air-conditioned environment should be avoided.

2. Psoas muscle training

For those with chronic strain, strengthening the back and waist muscles, mainly the sacrospinal muscles, can not only compensate for the function of the diseased tissue by increasing muscle strength, but also promote the patient's early recovery. There are many ways to exercise the waist and back muscles, and the best one is the flying swallow skimming the water (or dragonfly skimming the water) style, 3 times a day, 50 times each time (you can do less at the beginning).

3. Blockade therapy

Blockade therapy is as mentioned above. In addition to injecting procaine, 0.5 ml of hydrocortisone can be added each time. 4 times is a course of treatment, and the interval between each treatment should be 5 to 7 days. Most of them are effective, with about 50% to 70% of patients achieving significant results or even complete recovery.

4. Others

Including physical therapy, symptomatic medication, external application of Chinese herbal medicine, mineral bath, etc. all have certain therapeutic effects. For some patients with a long course of illness and long-term ineffective treatment, a plaster waist or chest and back brace can be used for immobilization and fixation for 8 to 10 weeks. At the same time, strengthening the waist and back muscle exercises can usually achieve satisfactory results.
