Thyroid iodine-free salt

Thyroid iodine-free salt

Non-iodized salt is a kind of edible salt. This salt has certain benefits to the human body, and we can only eat this salt when there are some problems with our body. There are many problems with the thyroid gland, among which iodine is an important component of thyroid hormones. The salt used for different thyroid diseases is different. So is there any connection between iodized salt and thyroid?

Non-iodized salt is refined table salt that does not contain iodide. Iodine is an important raw material for the synthesis of essential thyroid hormones, which affect the body's production, development and metabolism. Iodine exists in nature, and people mainly obtain it from drinking water, food, vegetables and the surrounding environment.

To avoid excessive iodine, the following groups are advised not to consume iodized salt and should consume non-iodized salt:

1. Residents in non-iodine-deficient areas should not consume iodized salt. Residents in coastal areas like Changhai County who eat a lot of seafood (rich in iodine) should especially not consume iodized salt.

2. Patients with hyperthyroidism, regardless of gender, because iodine can stimulate the synthesis of thyroid hormones.

3. Urban residents who are found to have thyroid nodules during physical examinations (because most cities have eliminated the "big neck disease" - endemic goiter caused by iodine deficiency, so when urban residents are found to have thyroid nodules, the possibility of iodine deficiency is extremely small and the possibility of iodine excess is very high).

4. For patients with thyroiditis (Hashimoto's disease), iodine will stimulate and aggravate inflammation.

5. Patients with thyroid tumors (regardless of whether they have undergone surgery).

6. Patients with thyroid cancer (except those who have undergone total thyroidectomy).

7. For patients with underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), there was once controversy, but now there is a tendency to limit iodine intake.

8. People with other thyroid diseases (in fact, only one thyroid disease - goiter - requires iodine supplementation. People with other thyroid diseases do not need to take iodine supplements, otherwise it may be counterproductive).

Iodine deficiency can cause hyperthyroidism (commonly known as big neck disease), but iodine supplementation must be scientific and reasonable. The more iodine intake is not necessarily better. If the human body consumes too much iodine, it may cause harm, such as diseases such as high-iodine goiter. Due to factors such as high work pressure and fast pace of life, more and more patients with thyroid diseases such as hyperthyroidism have appeared in clinical practice in recent years. For people who already have hyperthyroidism or have a family history of hyperthyroidism, they should control excessive iodine intake and consume iodine-free salt. At the same time, he also pointed out that the number of patients with rhinitis in my country is gradually increasing, and the saline used for nasal washing must be iodine-free salt.

Patients with thyroid nodules can eat non-iodized salt, and generally there is no restriction on iodine intake, but they may need to eat less than normal people. However, seafood, such as kelp, seaweed, and shrimp, may contain relatively high salt, so remember not to eat these foods.
