Can I still eat flour if it clumps?

We all know that the food we eat has a shelf life. If the food is eaten within the shelf life, the harm to the human body is relatively small. If the food is expired, it must not be eaten. Flour is a food we often eat in our lives, and it can also be said to be our staple food. But sometimes the flour will become damp and clump due to improper storage. So, can the flour still be eaten if it is clumped? Let me introduce to you

Flour can be eaten if it is damp and slightly clumpy. If it is moldy, discolored, or has an odor, it cannot be eaten.

Because flour has fine particles, a large activation area and small gaps, it is very easy to clump into pieces, absorb moisture, generate heat, and become moldy. In severe cases, it will become rancid and bitter. The shelf life of flour is generally 3 months in summer and 6 months in other seasons. Slight clumping does not affect consumption, but if it is moldy, discolored, or has an odor, it cannot be eaten.

To protect flour from moisture:

①Store your flour in a sealed plastic bag. Using sealed plastic bags can isolate the flour from the air and block the effect of oxygen. In this way, the flour will not get damp and moldy.

②If you don’t eat it in the short term, you can also store it in the freezer of the refrigerator. This way, the flour will not go bad no matter how long it takes.

Flour will go bad if left for too long. It will be prone to insects, moisture absorption and caking, or mold. Especially in the humid and hot summer, there is a lot of rain, high temperature and high humidity.

The harm of flour after getting wet:

When flour gets damp, it will clump together and quickly become moldy and spoil, attracting many small insects. If people eat food made with moldy flour, they will eat various molds directly into their bodies, which can cause acute enteritis, liver and kidney damage, and cancer.
