What are the gastric mucosal protective agents

What are the gastric mucosal protective agents

There are many kinds of drugs that can protect us in life, but drugs are three-point poisons. Many drugs have very strong side effects after taking them. Therefore, to protect our stomach organs, the most important thing is our eating habits. If the gastric mucosa is damaged, it must be repaired in time, otherwise our stomach disease will become more and more serious. So what are the gastric mucosal protective agents?

The gastric mucosa is not afraid of corrosion from high concentrations of acid and pepsin in the stomach, but is afraid of stimulation from tobacco, alcohol, Helicobacter pylori, and certain foods and drugs. If the gastric mucosa is exposed to these stimuli for a long time, it is easy to be damaged, and even bleeding, ulcers and other lesions may occur. Once the above situation occurs, patients often feel unbearable abdominal pain. Gastric mucosal protective agents are the best tools for eliminating pain and healing ulcers.

There are six major categories of commonly used gastric mucosal protective agents, and many people do not know the difference between them or which one is suitable for them. "Ask the Doctor" will explain it to you in detail and help you choose the one that suits you.

What are the types of gastric mucosal protective agents?

Gastric mucosal protective agents, as the name suggests, are drugs that can prevent and treat gastric mucosal damage, promote tissue repair and thus heal ulcer surfaces. There are usually 6 categories:

(1) Bismuth

Mechanism of action: Bismuth can form a film in an acidic environment, which covers the ulcer surface to shield it from acid and resist irritation. In addition, bismuth can bind to the protease produced by Helicobacter pylori, hindering Helicobacter pylori from obtaining nutrients, thereby playing a role in eradicating Helicobacter pylori. Representative drugs include potassium bismuth citrate, colloidal bismuth pectin, compound bismuth aluminate, etc.

Suitable population: patients with gastrointestinal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.

(2) Misoprostol

Misoprostol is a derivative of prostaglandin E1. It has a powerful effect in inhibiting gastric acid secretion and can also inhibit the adhesion of platelets on the gastric mucosa, thereby enhancing gastric mucosal blood circulation and promoting mucosal repair. In addition, misoprostol has the pharmacological activity of E-type prostaglandins, which can soften the cervix and enhance uterine tone and intrauterine pressure.

Suitable for people: This medicine is effective but relatively expensive. Patients with refractory ulcer disease or recurrent ulcer disease.

(3) Sucralfate

Sucralfate can be decomposed into negatively charged sucrose octasulfate in acidic gastric juice. It can attract the positively charged exudate proteins on the ulcer surface to form a thin film, blocking the stimulation of gastric acid on the ulcer surface and promoting healing. In addition, sucrose octasulfate can also form an insoluble colloid together, covering the gastric mucosa and reducing irritation.

Suitable for the crowd: Most ulcer patients can use it.

(4) Licorice zinc

Licorice can increase the hexosamine content of the gastric mucosa and improve the defense ability of the gastric mucosa. Zinc can promote the secretion of mucus by the gastric mucosa, thereby accelerating the healing of ulcers.

Suitable population: It is contraindicated for patients with mild ulcers, allergies and acute or active gastrointestinal ulcers.

(5) Thymus protein

Thymus protein is a protein that has local nutritional effects. It can promote the growth of epidermal cell fibroblasts, enhance the activity of Na-K-ATPase in gastric mucosal cells, and help the gastric mucosa resist toxins produced by Helicobacter pylori and stimulation from other aspects, thereby effectively promoting ulcer healing.

Suitable for the crowd: It can be used by most ulcer patients, especially those with ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori.

(6) Aluminum carbonate

The main function of magnesium aluminum carbonate is to neutralize stomach acid, reduce the irritation of stomach acid to gastric mucosa, and help ulcers heal.
