Do monkeys have rabies? The probability of monkeys carrying rabies

Monkeys are very familiar animals to people, and we can usually see a lot of monkeys in zoos. However, it is generally not recommended for people to have close contact with monkeys, because monkeys have very sharp teeth and may bite people if you are not careful. Therefore, it is very harmful to the human body, so people often need to be careful to avoid being bitten by monkeys. However, some people think that monkeys carry the virus themselves. So do monkeys have rabies? What is the probability that monkeys carry rabies?

The probability is almost 0

1. What is rabies?

Rabies is an acute infectious disease caused by the rabies virus, also known as hydrophobia, mad dog disease, etc. Rabies virus is mainly transmitted between animals. Animals infected with rabies are commonly known as mad animals, such as mad dogs, mad cats, mad wolves, etc. If people are bitten or scratched by mad animals, they will be infected with the rabies virus and may contract rabies. People suffering from rabies will develop a series of mental symptoms, such as extreme fear, mania, fear of water, fear of wind, fear of light, fear of sound, etc., and gradually develop symptoms such as throat muscle spasms, drooling, paralysis, respiratory and circulatory paralysis. The mortality rate is 100%.

2. How is rabies contracted?

Rabies is caused by humans being bitten by rabid dogs, cats or other animals or animals carrying the rabies virus. The rabies virus enters the human body through broken skin and causes the disease. Rabies virus can be transmitted through the respiratory tract. Bats living in caves can transmit the virus through the air. There have been incidents of people working in caves and laboratories being infected with rabies through aerosols. Corneal transplantation may be one of the transmission routes.

3. How to prevent rabies?

① Do not keep dogs, cats or other animals;

② If you keep dogs, cats and other animals, you must give them rabies vaccines regularly;

③Don’t be hurt by these animals:

④ After being injured by dogs, cats and other animals, you should treat the wound in time, go to the disease control (epidemic prevention), hospital and other health institutions to inject human rabies vaccine, or follow the doctor's advice to whether you should inject anti-rabies virus serum.

4. How to treat wounds correctly?

After being bitten by a mad animal, whether it is a severe bite or a minor injury, the wound should be washed immediately (within 3 hours after the injury) with soapy water and clean water. It is best to use 20% soapy water. For large and deep wounds, rinse thoroughly with 0.2% chlorhexidine or 0.1% mercuric chloride after debridement (be sure to change the cotton swab). Early local treatment after a bite plays an important role. The earlier the local treatment, the better. Even if it is delayed for 1 to 2 days, or even 3 to 4 days, local treatment should not be ignored. At this time, if the wound has scabbed, the scab should be removed and then washed repeatedly with soapy water until there is a little bleeding. Then rinse with clean water and apply 2% or 3% iodine.
