What is the correct way to clean your nasal cavity?

Regular nasal cleaning can effectively prevent some nasal diseases. In recent years, the haze in our country has become more and more serious. We all know that there are a lot of bacteria in the haze. Long-term inhalation is very harmful to our body, especially for people with rhinitis. Rhinitis is more likely to recur. In fact, we can relieve some nasal diseases by cleaning the nasal cavity. What is the correct way to clean the nasal cavity?

Under normal circumstances, we only need to clean it twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. If you encounter dust or the working environment is polluted, you can go back indoors and wash it again. In order to prevent colds, we usually use 0.9% saline solution to clean the nasal cavity using a cleaning bottle. When cleaning, you can tilt your head forward slightly, plug the nose plug end of the cleaner into your nasal cavity to seal it, then open your mouth and breathe slowly, pinch the bottom of the bottle to let water enter from one nostril and flow out from the other nostril and mouth.

The total amount of water used for each cleaning is adjusted according to your own needs, approximately between 250 ml and 500 ml, and both nostrils need to be cleaned, and each flushing time is approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

In addition, pregnant and breastfeeding women can use nasal irrigation to treat rhinitis, allergic rhinitis and prevent colds, which is safer.

How to clean your nasal cavity correctly at home?

1. Nasal wash solution

Currently, hospitals provide professional nasal wash solutions to prevent patients from having trouble controlling the concentration when preparing their own solutions. The cleaning solution is warm salt water with the same concentration of physiological saline (0.9%) and body temperature (35~37℃) as human body, which is used to flush the nasal cavity, just like tears in the eyes. It will not cause discomfort, thus reducing the occurrence of choking.

2. Nasal cleaning

1. The nasal congestion port of the cleaning bottle is tilted upward, the bottle body is vertical, and the nasal congestion port is in the "0" closed position (there are 3 gears at the nasal congestion port. 0: closed; 1: small water output; 2: large water output). Use about 260ml of cleaning solution (i.e. 1 bottle of water) for one rinse;

2. Pull out the plug on the top cover of the cleaning bottle, hold the concave part of the bottle with one hand, and block the air inlet hole of the top cover with your index finger;

3. Turn the other nasal congestion port to 1 or 2 in the direction of the arrow. The head should be above the washbasin, lowered and tilted forward 30 degrees, the spray head should be close to the nostrils, and the angle of the spray head should be slightly adjusted to avoid the flushing liquid rushing vertically up the nostrils as much as possible.

4. Open your mouth and breathe slowly and calmly through it. Tightly block the nostril to be flushed with the nasal plug port, block the air hole on the upper cover with the index finger, hold the bottle with your hand and squeeze the bottle body at the same time to start flushing the nasal cavity. The cleaning liquid will flow into the nasal cavity from one nostril, and after flushing the nasal cavity, it will flow out from the other nostril or mouth.

5. When the water flow into the nasal cavity becomes weaker, remove your index finger from the air inlet on the upper cover to breathe, relax your hand holding the bottle, and the bottle will return to its original position due to its elasticity. Repeat the above steps to continue cleaning.

6. After rinsing, turn the nose plug port of the cleaning bottle to "0" (closed position) and put the upper cover plug back on the upper cover air inlet.

7. When rinsing again, unscrew the upper cover and pour about 260 ml of saline solution in the rehydration bottle into the cleaning bottle for use.
