Generally, if there is a problem with kidney function, two treatment methods will be chosen. Because of kidney problems, normal detoxification is impossible, so dialysis is required. There are two types of dialysis: hemodialysis and lumbar and abdominal dialysis. There are two types of hemodialysis. One is short-term, which can be cured in a few cycles, and the other is maintenance dialysis, which requires inserting an instrument into the arm. Dialysis used in medicine can be roughly divided into two categories: hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis Hemodialysis, abbreviated as hemodialysis, is also commonly known as artificial kidney or dialysis. It is a type of blood purification technology. It uses the principle of semipermeable membrane to remove various harmful and redundant metabolic wastes and excess electrolytes in the fluid out of the body through diffusion, so as to purify the blood and correct the balance of water, electrolyte and acid-base. Peritoneal dialysis Peritoneal dialysis uses the peritoneum as a semi-permeable membrane and gravity to infuse the prepared dialysate into the patient's peritoneal cavity through a catheter. In this way, there is a concentration gradient difference of solutes on both sides of the peritoneum, and the solutes on the high-concentration side move to the low-concentration side (diffusion effect); water moves from the hypotonic side to the hypertonic side (osmotic effect). The peritoneal dialysis fluid is continuously replaced to remove metabolic products and toxic substances from the body and correct water and electrolyte imbalances. Disadvantages of peritoneal dialysis 1. Induce infection: Since the catheter dedicated to peritoneal dialysis must be connected to the dialysis bag when changing the fluid, there is a possibility of abdominal infection. Therefore, when doing any steps related to peritoneal dialysis treatment, you must wash your hands thoroughly first. With new technologies, the incidence of peritonitis has been significantly reduced. 2. Increased weight and blood triglycerides: Since the dialysate uses glucose to remove excess water, some glucose may be absorbed during dialysis, which may cause the patient to gain weight and increase blood triglycerides and other lipids. Therefore, appropriate exercise and reduced sugar intake are needed. 3. Excessive protein loss: A small amount of protein and vitamins will be lost during the dialysis process, so they need to be supplemented from food. In addition to maintaining your original normal eating habits, you can consume more high-quality proteins such as fish, meat, eggs, and milk. The best sources of vitamins are fruits and vegetables to replenish the body's needs. |
