Is bile duct cancer contagious? Generally not

The occurrence of bile duct cancer is related to bile duct stones and cholangitis, and bile duct stones are generally caused by bad eating habits or other pathological reasons. Early bile duct cancer can be controlled and cured if treated in time. However, in the middle and late stages, the disease is more malignant and the prognosis is poor. Therefore, family members of patients with bile duct cancer will worry about whether this disease is contagious. Is bile duct cancer contagious?

1. Is bile duct cancer contagious? <br/>Generally speaking, so-called infectious diseases have a pathogen, such as the common bacterial pathogens, which can be transmitted to each other through some media, while bile duct cancer is a malignant tumor occurring in the bile duct area. It is generally not contagious unless it is caused by a virus. That is the spread of the virus, not the transmission of the disease itself.
Although bile duct cancer is not contagious, it has a certain degree of heredity, that is, family aggregation. If there is a patient with a history of bile duct cancer in the family, the probability of getting the disease will be much higher than that of other families.

What are the symptoms of bile duct cancer?
1. Jaundice: About 40% of patients with bile duct cancer will experience jaundice, and the reason for jaundice is bile duct obstruction. Therefore, once the condition worsens and the degree of obstruction becomes serious, the development of jaundice will also be progressive. If the bile duct is blocked extrahepatically, the jaundice will be darker in color, and if it is blocked intrahepatically, the color will be lighter. When the jaundice is completely blocked, the color will be darker, and when it is incompletely blocked, the color will be lighter. Occasionally, when the tumor in the bile duct falls off or is dislocated, the symptoms of jaundice may fluctuate. In general, patients with middle and lower bile duct cancer have painless jaundice, and their urine is usually dark yellow or tea-colored, and their stool color will become lighter or clay-colored.

2. Abdominal pain: Some patients with bile duct cancer may experience upper abdominal discomfort or dull pain under the xiphoid process after eating. If the pain is severe, it may radiate to the back.
3. Enlarged liver: When bile duct cancer reaches the middle and late stages, cancer cells may spread to surrounding organs. If liver metastasis occurs, enlarged liver or cirrhosis will occur.
4. Fever: If there is inflammation in the obstructed duct of a bile duct cancer patient, fever may also occur.
5. Other symptoms: Patients with bile duct cancer may also experience loss of appetite, poor physical strength, itching all over the body, nausea and vomiting, and other discomforts.
