How to treat mouth ulcers quickly and effectively

Corner cheilitis, also known as angular cheilitis, is a disease that occurs at the corners of the mouth. If the condition is serious, it may even greatly affect a person's eating. Therefore, once the corner cheil is found, it needs to be handled and treated as soon as possible to avoid the corner cheil from worsening and affecting other facial skin. So, how can we treat mouth ulcers quickly and effectively? The following will introduce relevant knowledge to you!

1. What is angular cheilitis?

Angular cheilitis is commonly known as rotten mouth. There are two main causes of angular cheilitis. One is vitamin B2 deficiency, which is caused by a lack of nutrients. The other is caused by infection, also called infectious stomatitis, the pathogen can be streptococcus or fungus.

It is more common in school-age children, especially infectious stomatitis, which can cause epidemics. It is mostly chronic and symmetrical, and the course of the disease can last for weeks or months.

2. What are the symptoms of angular cheilitis?

The main symptom is that the corners of the mouth on both sides are grayish white and appear wet, which is the result of saliva soaking. There are some horizontal shallow cracks on the skin at the corners of the mouth. The exudate from the cracked area can form a thin, weak, light yellow scab.

When combined with purulent infection, it turns into a yellow-brown scab. When you open your mouth, the scab will split and cause bleeding. It causes pain and difficulty speaking, and affects eating and drinking. Sick children often lick the scabs with their tongues because they are dry, so it is also called licking sores. Alternating between scabbing and cracking, and between dryness and moisture, are the reasons why angular cheilitis persists.

3. Treatment and care of angular cheilitis

If you have angular cheilitis, you can treat it symptomatically. If it is a deficiency of vitamin B2, there will be other symptoms, such as glossitis, dry tongue, burning and tingling, and finally swelling to purple-red, smooth surface, shaped like beef, also called beef tongue, sometimes accompanied by cheilitis and scrotitis. Treatment can be achieved by taking vitamin B2. You should eat more green leafy vegetables, egg yolks, liver, brown rice, soy products, etc. in your diet.

Do not let children lick the corners of their mouths, and do not apply gentian violet, because gentian violet will make the corners of the mouth drier and more prone to cracks. You can apply some ointments, such as 1%-5% clotrimazole ointment or chloramphenicol cod liver oil, which can not only resist infection but also promote the growth of epithelial cells.
