How to identify the authenticity of beeswax

Beeswax is a type of amber and is the most fashionable item to be appreciated in today's society. It can also be used for collection. Beeswax is an opaque or semi-opaque amber called honey wax. Wearing beeswax for a long time can improve sleep, enhance body metabolism and promote blood circulation. There are many types of color and quality of beeswax. Since the quality grades of beeswax are different, the value is also different. So we must remind everyone to be careful when purchasing to avoid buying fakes.

Question 1

Beeswax is a type of amber. It is quite special due to its low transparency. In essence, it is not much different from crystal clear amber. Beeswax is also formed slowly over tens of millions of years and has all the characteristics of fossilized resin. Therefore, the method for identifying the authenticity of beeswax is roughly the same as that for identifying amber.

While the amber market is developing rapidly, many problems have also emerged. The most acute problem is the increasing number of fake ambers, to the point that there are even more fakes than real ones. There are also quite a few fake beeswax. If you do not have a certain ability to identify the authenticity of beeswax, it is easy to be cheated when choosing beeswax. The most common beeswax on the market is beeswax with a yellow hue. In addition to this kind of beeswax, there is also a rare old beeswax. Old beeswax refers to beeswax objects that are hundreds of years old. Due to their age, they are extremely rare. The color of the old beeswax surface becomes darker after long-term oxidation, and the surface has fine weathering lines and a patina gloss covering the weathering lines. Compared with common beeswax, old beeswax is undoubtedly more attractive and is also the favorite of those who like to collect beeswax.

Because beeswax is divided into two types: ordinary beeswax and old beeswax, counterfeits of these two types of beeswax often appear in the market. Both types of beeswax need to be carefully identified, so what about it? The method of distinguishing the authenticity of ordinary beeswax is the same as that of identifying amber. Several commonly used methods can identify those common counterfeit beeswax. One is the salt water experiment method, which involves placing beeswax into a saturated salt water solution. Those beeswax products that sink are undoubtedly plastic products. The second is the bubble observation method, which uses a magnifying glass to observe the internal texture of the beeswax. If there are obvious blood-like lines, then it is undoubtedly a synthetic beeswax product. The third is the ether experiment method, which is to drop ether solution on the surface of beeswax, and then observe whether there are any changes on the surface. If there is stickiness or dissolution, it is a resin product. The authenticity of old beeswax can be determined by following the following two methods. The first is transparency. Under natural conditions, synthetic old beeswax is opaque, while natural old beeswax is slightly transparent to opaque. Under backlight or strong light conditions, synthetic old beeswax is completely opaque and has no texture, while natural old beeswax is obviously translucent and the texture inside can be seen. The second is defects. The surface of synthetic old beeswax has red spots that are scattered and feel smooth and flat. The defects of natural old beeswax are often concentrated together, and feel obvious dents.
