I feel like there is something in my urethra. What's going on?

Under normal circumstances, if you urinate in time, you will not feel something in the urethra. If it happens, it is very likely caused by prostatitis, cystitis, kidney stones, urethritis, etc. Experts say that if it is caused by urethritis, it must be treated promptly and correctly, otherwise it will cause serious complications such as epididymitis, prostatitis, endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.

1. What if I feel something in my urethra?

In this case, urethritis is very likely, and prostatitis cannot be ruled out. You need to go to the hospital for urine routine, color ultrasound and other tests to make a clear diagnosis, and then receive symptomatic treatment.

2. Common causes of urethritis

1. Urethral injury: abrasions of the urethral mucosa caused by urethral instrument examination can destroy the defense function of the urethral mucosa and lead to bacterial infection;

2. Foreign bodies in the urethra: Foreign bodies placed from the outside or stones in the urethra, etc., can cause urinary tract infection if left there for a long time;

3. Urethral obstruction: such as stenosis of the foreskin, stenosis of the external urethral opening, urethral stenosis, posterior urethral valve, urethral tumor, female hymen umbrella, fusion of hymen at the urethral opening, etc., due to poor urination, urine accumulates in the urethra, which may cause secondary urethral infection;

4. Inflammation of adjacent organs, such as prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, vaginitis or cervicitis, can spread to the urethra, which is often a stubborn lesion of chronic posterior urethritis;

5. It is often related to sexual life. Unclean sexual life can easily cause urinary tract infection such as instrument inspection and indwelling catheter.

3. Complications of urethritis

Complications in male patients: epididymitis, prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, etc.;

Complications for gynecological patients: endometritis, salpingitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, peritoneum, etc.

Intraurethral infection can spread directly to the bladder or prostate and cause cystitis or prostatitis. If acute urethritis is not treated properly, it may be complicated by paraurethral abscess. The abscess can penetrate the skin of the penis and become a urethral fistula. Fibrosis during the healing process of urethral inflammation can cause urethral stenosis.
