What to do if you are stung by a crab

If you are stung by a jellyfish, do not rinse with fresh water, because fresh water can induce the nematocysts to release venom. You should wipe off the tentacles or venom stuck to the skin with a towel, clothes, or mud as soon as possible. You can use sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or alum to clean the wound. If the injury area is large and the systemic reaction is severe, go to the hospital for treatment immediately.

Local treatment: Go ashore immediately and rinse the sting area with sea water. Do not use fresh water, as it can easily stimulate unfired nematocysts. Do not apply ice, soak in 40 degree warm water. It is not advisable to wipe it with a towel. Large tentacles can be removed with tweezers or other tools. Rescuers should wear gloves to protect themselves from stings. Soak or apply a wet compress to the sting area with 5% acetic acid (or vinegar) as soon as possible for at least 30 minutes or until the pain disappears. For oral stings, rinse mouth immediately and repeatedly with any available drink; for eye stings, rinse with plenty of fresh water.

3 First, you can use a dry towel or other soft clothing to wipe the wound in one direction to remove the venom and jellyfish tentacles adsorbed on the skin. 4 Rinse the stung area with sea water (white vinegar is also fine) on the spot. Remember not to use fresh water (it will accelerate the release of venom from the stinging cells).

5. Apply alkaline solution to the wound to neutralize the toxin. Such as alum water or 1% sodium bicarbonate solution (soapy water can also work). Be careful when applying and do not apply too many times to prevent secondary punctures.

6 After the above preliminary treatment, the injured person can be sent to the hospital. If the condition is not serious, some anti-allergic drugs can be taken orally.
