What is the appropriate humidity in the bedroom?

Many people have not paid attention to the humidity in the bedroom. If the bedroom is too dry, it can easily cause respiratory diseases. If the humidity is too low, dust in the room will easily fly around. It’s okay if it ends up getting stuck on clothes, but I’m afraid it’ll get stuck inside my nostrils. People feel most comfortable at a humidity of 50 to 60, and breathing is particularly smooth at this time. A good environment can make people happy both physically and mentally.

People feel most comfortable living in an environment with a relative humidity of 45-65% RH and a humidity index of 50-60, and are less likely to develop respiratory diseases.

The indoor humidity during the winter heating period in the north is usually 15% RH. In this dry environment, people generally feel various discomforts. When the air humidity is lower than 40% RH, the movement of cilia on the human nose and lung respiratory mucosa slows down, and dust, bacteria, etc. are easily attached to the mucosa, irritating the throat and causing symptoms such as thirst, dry cough, hoarseness, and sore throat. It also accelerates the reproduction rate of influenza viruses and Gram-positive bacteria that can cause infection, and they are easily spread with dust in the air and cause other diseases.

Therefore, when dry and cold air invades in autumn and winter, it can easily induce pharyngitis, tracheitis, pneumonia and other diseases. In addition, allergic diseases such as allergic dermatitis, bronchial asthma, and skin itching are also related to dry air.

When the air humidity is greater than 65% RH, the amount of pineal hormone in the human body is also large, which makes the concentration of thyroid hormone and adrenaline in the body relatively lower, and people will feel listless and depressed. Working and living in a humid environment for a long time can easily lead to rheumatic diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatism diseases, which will eventually lead to a decrease in the body's immunity.

Because air humidity affects people's health, the air humidity in the room should be adjusted with the change of seasons to keep the indoor humidity within an appropriate range. Generally speaking, the humidity is high in spring and summer, and low in autumn and winter, so you should open windows less often on rainy days in summer; when there is heating in winter, you should use a humidifier or humidify it yourself, or mop the floor with a wet mop to increase the indoor humidity.
