What causes pulmonary edema?

What causes pulmonary edema?

Many people have heard of tuberculosis, but few people know about pulmonary edema. In fact, pulmonary edema is a disease caused by colds and fever. Pulmonary edema can easily develop into tuberculosis over time. Pulmonary edema is an autoimmune disease. Common symptoms of pulmonary edema are physical fatigue, night sweats, and frequent coughing. What exactly causes pulmonary edema?

What causes pulmonary edema?

The main cause of pulmonary edema is the heart. The human heart function is divided into left and right sides, then, they each has its own circulation path. The functions of our left atrium and right atrium are completely different. The left atrium is responsible for transporting blood to the whole body, and the right atrium is responsible for transporting blood from the arteries to the lungs. Then, when the left atrium fails, it will cause pulmonary edema.

The treatment of pulmonary edema mainly depends on the cause of the disease. Common causes include hypertensive heart disease, coronary heart disease, aortic valve disease and mitral valve regurgitation. Irregular heartbeat, severe anemia and excessive fluid infusion can also cause pulmonary congestion and fluid accumulation.

There are many causes of pulmonary edema, such as pulmonary hypertension, high blood pressure, liver disease, renal insufficiency, heart failure, etc. However, the proportion of pulmonary edema caused by heart disease is higher.

Heart disease can cause blood that was originally transported to the entire body to accumulate in the heart. When the blood in the lungs tries to flow back to the heart, the increased pressure in the heart blocks the flow, causing water in the blood to seep into the tissue gaps and causing obstruction of lung ventilation, which in turn leads to pulmonary edema. Of course, treatment must be targeted at the cause of pulmonary edema.

Therefore, pulmonary edema is one of the manifestations of advanced lung cancer, but people with pulmonary edema do not necessarily have advanced lung cancer. Friends, don’t panic before determining the cause.

Is pulmonary edema serious?

Pulmonary effusion is usually called pleural effusion in medicine. The water accumulates outside the lungs. It can be caused by infection or inflammation (such as pneumonia, tuberculosis... can all be accompanied by pleural effusion), or by some autoimmune diseases (such as lupus erythematosus). There are also many lung diseases that are accompanied by pleural effusion. Pulmonary effusion can be treated with diuretics, some vasodilators and morphine, which have a great soothing effect during the acute phase.

These are symptomatic treatments. In order to achieve the goal of cure, treatment should be based on the underlying cause, such as controlling high blood pressure, improving coronary blood supply and promoting the heart's pumping function. Severe heart valve disease can be corrected with surgery, and drugs can normalize heart rhythm and cure anemia. In the early stages of the disease, if the underlying cause can be effectively controlled, it is not difficult to cure pulmonary edema; but if it is a late stage disease and the heart function has begun to fail, it is more difficult to cure.

How to treat pulmonary edema

The treatment of pulmonary edema mainly depends on the cause of the disease. Common causes include hypertensive heart disease, coronary heart disease, etc. Irregular heartbeat, severe anemia, excessive fluid infusion, and even malignant tumors such as lung cancer can also cause pulmonary congestion and fluid accumulation. Pulmonary effusion can be treated with diuretics, some vasodilators and morphine, which have a great soothing effect during the acute phase.

These are symptomatic treatments. In order to achieve the purpose of treatment, treatment should be based on the underlying cause, such as controlling high blood pressure, promoting the heart's pumping function, etc.; if it is caused by malignant tumors such as lung cancer, targeted treatment should be given to the tumor itself.

In the early stages of the disease, if the underlying cause can be effectively controlled, it is not difficult to treat pulmonary edema; if the disease has developed to the middle or late stages, the chances of treatment are generally small, but if you actively cooperate with the doctor to take the correct treatment method, you can also achieve long-term survival results.
