How long can you live after a kidney transplant

Many patients have used drugs that stimulate the kidneys in their diet or when they have other diseases. Seriously ill patients suffer from renal failure, which makes their bodies unable to bear it. They will feel that their lives are in danger and are disappearing little by little. The hospital's suggestion to patients is to replace the patient with a matching new kidney, but many patients cannot afford the high cost of kidney replacement. Some patients will have rejection reactions after the kidney is replaced, but many patients can live a healthy life after the transplant. So how long can a patient live after a kidney transplant?

It varies from person to person. Generally speaking, the one-year survival rate after kidney transplantation for uremia is 85%, the five-year survival rate is 60%, and the ten-year survival rate is only 1%. This is just a general situation and cannot be generalized. So far, there are people who have survived well for 20 years after kidney transplantation, while there are also many who died one month after the operation.

Currently, the main problems threatening the long-term survival of kidney transplant recipients are drug toxicity, cardiovascular disease, viral infection, rejection reactions, and the patient's inability to adhere to the expert's guidance for a long time and poor compliance.

According to global data, 50% of people will develop cytomegalovirus infection after transplantation. According to the statistics of the domestic transplant database, the detection rate of cytomegalovirus infection is getting higher and higher, and 21% of patients with single kidney transplantation have post-transplant infection.

Generally speaking, people who have received kidney transplants need to take hormones and metabolic inhibition drugs for life to reduce the effects of rejection in the body. Hormones can cause people to gain weight, and kidney transplantation carries certain risks.

More and more young people are troubled by uremia

If young people use medications incorrectly, come into contact with certain chemicals, microbial infections, environmental pollution, or unhealthy food, antigens will form in the body, stimulating the body to produce immune complexes.

When this complex flows through the blood to the glomerular basement membrane, it will form deposits, stimulate the immune mechanism, cause a hypersensitivity reaction, cause immune damage, and form glomerulonephritis, which may lead to sudden onset of uremia.

What is worrying is that 30% to 40% of patients with glomerulonephritis have a latent onset of the disease and have almost no symptoms. Except for a few lucky people who are discovered to be ill by chance, most of them are not diagnosed until they have developed uremia and show obvious edema and weakness, which causes many tragedies.
