What should I do if there are mountain crickets at home

Mountain crickets are also called centipedes or millipedes. Everyone is familiar with this kind of insect because they can be found in most places in my country. It belongs to a type of woodlouse, and because it has many legs, many people call it a train bug. As a pest, everyone wants to kill them when they see them, but this insect can produce a toxic chemical. So, what should we do when this insect appears in our home?

1. What is a mountain cricket?

Mountain crickets are also known as centipedes, millipedes, comb crickets, etc. This is a kind of woodlice - the grass shoe bug is commonly known as millipede (called mountain cricket in Beijing). It is a pest and is also called train bug in some places. It is a kind of millipede. Millipedes, also known as millipedes, come in many species and various shapes. The small ones are only 2 mm in length, while the large ones can be as long as 280 mm. They are characterized by their numerous legs, with each body segment having two pairs of legs, twice as many as centipedes. Among arthropods, it belongs to the class Myriapoda along with centipedes. They feed on rotten plants and like to live in moist farmland, under piles of rocks, or in the shade of trees. They like to live in groups and eat humus. Found across much of the country, most species contain glands that produce toxic chemicals to deter predators.

  1. The harm of mountain crickets to human body

The humid environment in the home is prone to breeding mountain crickets. Mountain crickets do not bite people, but when you touch or fiddle with them, they can secrete toxins that can cause local irritation. In severe cases, they can cause obvious erythema, herpes, and necrosis. Use plenty of soap and water to wash, but be sure not to use alcohol. If the skin reacts, corticosteroids can be applied topically. Eye injuries need to be rinsed immediately and corticosteroid eye drops or ointment should be applied.

    3. Why do mountain crickets smell bad?

There are scent glands on the body segments of millipedes that can secrete a toxic and smelly liquid. The smell is so bad that poultry and birds dare not peck at it. In addition, if humans accidentally eat millipedes, it will cause allergic edema of the lips. Furthermore, most species of mountain crickets contain glands that produce toxic chemicals to deter predators.

    4. Methods of killing mountain crickets

    1. After sprinkling quicklime in places where mountain crickets often appear, the humid growth environment will become dry and mountain crickets will not breed.

    2. You can also use "triazophos" for spraying, but people with skin allergies should not use it.

    3. A woodlice repellent made from dichlorvos and heat-treated rice bran can lure and kill them.

    4. Use 25% carbaryl or 25% diazinon, add 500 times the dilution in water and spray to kill. You can also use a mixture of DDT, DDT and cypermethrin to kill insects. It can also be killed by spraying 2000 times diluted 2% pyrethroid on plants and the bottom of pots. 4. If you find a millipede, you can catch it directly with tweezers.
