Breast cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy survival

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer have little effect on the patient's survival. Currently, comprehensive treatment is mostly adopted for breast cancer, and chemotherapy plays an indispensable role in the entire treatment process. Surgery and radiotherapy are only local treatments, while chemotherapy for breast cancer is a systemic treatment method.

Breast cancer patients can be roughly divided into three categories:

One is early breast cancer. After adequate surgical treatment, some patients no longer need further treatment, but another part of them still need to undergo breast cancer chemotherapy for a period of time according to different situations, which is called adjuvant chemotherapy.

The second is locally advanced breast cancer. This type of patient often has a large tumor that is difficult to fully undergo surgical treatment for the time being. They need to first use chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, which is called neoadjuvant chemotherapy, to prepare for surgery.

The third is metastatic advanced breast cancer. When such patients seek medical treatment, in addition to local lesions, there are also metastatic lesions in the lymph nodes and some internal organs of the body, most commonly in the lungs, liver and bones. At this time, chemotherapy is an important measure to control the progression of the disease and improve the quality of life of patients. It can be seen that most breast cancer patients need chemotherapy.
