What causes purple nails

What causes purple nails

Nails have a certain indicative significance for human health. If there are abnormalities in the nails, it also indicates to a certain extent that there are certain hidden dangers to the patient's physical health. For example, if the nails are purple, it may indicate that the patient has problems such as insufficient blood supply, cyanosis or heart disease. Of course, if people catch a cold, their nails will also turn purple!

1. Caused by cold

Nail color can tell us about changes in our body's internal health. Different colors may indicate different health problems. Some people's nails are purple, giving people a feeling of poisoning. Why do nails turn purple?

When the weather is cold and your fingers have just been taken out of cold water, or you are wearing too few clothes, the body's heat supply is insufficient, causing blood vessels to contract and peripheral circulation to be poor. Your fingers and nails will turn purple. If the nails turn purple due to cold, you just need to keep warm and make sure your body is warm.

2. Insufficient blood supply

Insufficient blood supply to the human body can cause local hypoxia in the fingers, and the color of the fingers will gradually deepen and turn purple and black; and people with poor blood circulation and anemia symptoms will also change the color of their fingernails, with varying shades and some turning purple.

3. Cyanosis

In addition to the purple nails, if the lips also turn purple, this phenomenon is medically called cyanosis. If the reduced hemoglobin in the superficial microvessels increases, the skin and mucous membranes will appear blue-purple. This is a manifestation of hypoxia in the human body. Many diseases can cause cyanosis, such as respiratory system diseases, cardiovascular system diseases, blood system diseases, etc.

4. Signs of Heart Disease

Purple nails are a sign of heart disease or blood disease, indicating a lack of oxygen or abnormalities in certain components of the blood. If purple and pale appear alternately, it can be seen in acrospasm.

5. Tips

The best color for normal and healthy nails is bright and moist pink. We should pay attention to the maintenance of nails on a daily basis, eat more foods rich in protein and calcium, and the body can provide enough nutrition to help nail growth; we should trim our nails frequently, usually once a week, and the nails should not be trimmed too short, as too short cannot protect the fingers; but they should not be left too long, as too long will allow many bacteria to remain.
