What harm does lime do to the human body

Illness caused by lime is a very common disease in daily life. It not only causes great harm to the patient's physical health, but also seriously affects their normal life and work. Therefore, it is particularly important to understand relevant knowledge and find scientific and effective treatment methods. When people find relevant symptoms, they need to seek medical treatment in time and choose appropriate treatment methods according to their actual situation.

Lime is an air-hardening inorganic cementitious material with calcium oxide as its main component. Lime is made from limestone, dolomite, chalk, shells and other products with high calcium carbonate content, which are calcined at 900~1100℃. Lime is the earliest cementing material used by humans. Lime is widely used in civil engineering and can also be used in medicine in my country.

But it is also harmful to the human body :

1. Direct contact with lime powder, also known as quicklime, in concentrations exceeding 25 mg can cause damage to the eyes and skin. This white, granular powder is irritating to the eyes and can cause dry, irritated skin. To protect your body, you should wear protective goggles, gloves, boots, hats and clothes to avoid direct contact with lime powder. If quicklime comes into contact with your eyes, you should immediately lift your eyelids and rinse thoroughly with clean water for 15 minutes. Of course, don't forget to clean your skin to prevent skin problems.

2. Its dust or suspended droplets are irritating to the mucous membrane. Although the degree is not as severe as that of sodium hydroxide, it can also cause sneezing and coughing. Like alkali, it can emulsify fat, absorb moisture from the skin, dissolve protein, and irritate and corrode tissues. Inhalation of lime dust may cause pneumonia. Therefore, after contact with lime powder, you should leave immediately and see a doctor in time according to the situation.

3. Ingestion of lime powder can cause mild to severe consequences, such as digestive tract discomfort and constipation. Swallowing quicklime can also lead to hypercalcemia and cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, loss of appetite and vomiting, and even cause kidney and muscle diseases. Need to go to the emergency room immediately for treatment.
