Skin color becomes dark purple after cupping

Cupping is a common health therapy nowadays. Many people today are not in good health, for example, there is severe dampness in the body, or other problems. When you feel unwell, there is no need to take medicine or injections immediately. You can first use other treatment methods that are more beneficial to the body. Taking medicine and injections will affect the body's resistance, but cupping will not. So why does the skin turn black and purple after cupping?

1 Common cupping spots include flushing, purple or purple-black bruises and small purple-red rashes, often accompanied by a feeling of heat and pain. These changes in the skin are part of the therapeutic effect of cupping therapy and can last from one to several days.

2 After cupping, if the cupping marks show blisters, edema, and water vapor, it indicates that the patient has excessive dampness or has become ill due to exposure to dampness.

3 After cupping, the blisters turn blood red or black red, which is a pathological reaction of long-term illness with dampness and blood stasis.

The cupping marks are dark red, purple-black, or have sha phenomena, and are slightly painful to the touch. If the patient also has a fever, it indicates that the patient has heat toxicity.

4. If the cupping marks appear purple or purple-black, and there is no red sha or fever, it indicates that the patient has blood stasis.

The cupping marks have no changes in skin color and are not warm to the touch, which usually indicates that the patient suffers from deficiency-cold syndrome.

If the cupping marks appear slightly itchy or have skin wrinkles, it usually indicates that the patient suffers from rheumatism.

People who are not sick usually have no obvious cupping marks.

A doctor's experience:

Based on the experience of predecessors and my summary of many years of clinical observation, I would like to introduce my clinical experience of cupping marks. Anyone with muscle and visceral dysfunction will have cupping marks of different colors, which has a certain reference value for diagnosis and health care guidance.

1. The cupping mark is tight, black and dark: it generally indicates blood stasis in the body, such as dysmenorrhea or insufficient blood supply to the heart, and this mark will also appear if the affected area is severely exposed to cold. If the marks do not disappear after several days, it usually means that the disease has been going on for a long time and it will take a long time to cure. If large areas of black and purple marks appear when cupping, it indicates that a large area has been affected by the wind and cold and the treatment should be mainly symptomatic and cold-dispelling.

2. Purple marks from the cupping area accompanied by plaques generally indicate local cold and blood stasis.

3. The cupping marks appear as scattered purple dots of varying depths, generally indicating qi stagnation and blood stasis.

4. Pale purple skin with plaques generally indicates deficiency syndrome with blood stasis. If the spots are obvious at the acupoints, it indicates weakness of the related internal organs. For example, if they appear at the Shenshu acupoints, it indicates kidney deficiency.

5. The cupping marks are bright red and usually indicate Yin deficiency or Qi and Yin deficiency. Yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire may also occur.

6. The cupping marks are bright red and scattered, usually appearing after cupping over a large area. They do not protrude above the skin. If they are concentrated on a certain acupoint or its vicinity, it indicates that the internal organs related to this acupoint are abnormal or there is a disease. In clinical practice, I often use cupping to find such red spots and use acupuncture to treat and regulate visceral functions.

7. After cupping or suction cupping, there are no cupping marks (or they are not obvious), or if there are cupping marks, they disappear immediately after the cupping is opened and the normal color is returned, which indicates that the body is basically normal or the condition is still mild.

8. If blisters are easily formed during cupping or sitting cupping, it indicates that there is a lot of moisture. If many small blisters appear on the affected area, it indicates that it is caused by moisture. To achieve an ideal therapeutic effect, multiple consecutive cupping treatments are needed.

9. If wheals appear during cupping (such as acute urticaria), it indicates that it is caused by wind coconut or an allergic constitution.

10. As the condition improves, the cupping marks will also be reduced and less likely to appear, which can indicate the recovery of the condition.
