After cupping, the skin turned black and purple and it hurts

Nowadays, people have paid more and more attention to their physical health. In the past, people may have paid more attention to economic income. However, now people’s thinking has changed. People know that physical health is the most important. Without a healthy body, money is meaningless. In order to have a healthier body, people will also learn about some therapies that are beneficial to the body, such as cupping, which can improve the blood circulation in the body and remove moisture from the body. But why does the skin turn black and purple and hurt after cupping?

1. It is normal for the skin to turn purple after cupping. Traditional Chinese medicine says it is a toxin, while Western medicine says it is a ruptured blood vessel with leakage of tissue fluid. Purple accompanied by black spots may indicate poor blood circulation, while purple spots and lumps of varying shades may indicate dampness.

2. Cupping is a therapy that uses a cup as a tool, and utilizes methods such as burning fire and pumping air to generate negative pressure, causing it to adsorb onto the body surface, causing local blood stasis, in order to achieve the effects of dredging meridians, promoting qi and blood circulation, reducing swelling and relieving pain, and dispelling wind and cold. Cupping therapy has a long history in China. As early as in the silk book "Fifty-two Prescriptions for Diseases" written in the Western Han Dynasty, there were records about "horn method", which is similar to the fire cupping therapy in later generations. Cupping therapy was also popular in ancient Greece and Rome.

3. Cupping (cupping therapy) therapy uses cupping to create negative pressure through exhaust and then sucks the cup onto the body surface. The skin reacts to this stimulation in various ways, mainly with changes in color and shape. We call this change "cupping stains."

4. Common cupping stains include flushing, purple or purple-black bruises, and small purple-red rashes, often accompanied by varying degrees of heat and pain. These changes in the skin are part of the therapeutic effect of cupping (cupping therapy) and may last from one to several days.

5. After cupping (cupping therapy), if the cupping stains appear as blisters, edema, and water vapor, it indicates that the patient has excessive dampness or has become ill due to exposure to dampness.

6. Sometimes the blisters turn blood red or dark red after extraction, indicating a pathological reaction of long-term illness with dampness and blood stasis. The cupping spots appear dark red, purple-black or red sha, are slightly painful to the touch, and the patient has a fever, indicating that the patient has heat toxicity syndrome. If the cupping spots appear purple or purple-black, without blood stasis or fever, it indicates that the patient has congestion.

7. The cupping spots have no changes in skin color and are not warm to the touch, which often indicates that the patient has a cold syndrome. If the cupping spots appear slightly itchy or have skin wrinkles, it usually indicates that the patient suffers from rheumatism. Generally speaking, people who are not sick do not have obvious changes in cupping spots. You can pull it out frequently. Purple and black indicate that your condition is very serious.
