How to treat fifth degree caries

How to treat fifth degree caries

Many people will suffer from tooth decay. When tooth decay occurs, it will have a lot of impact on dental health and life. Therefore, we must take good care of our teeth in life, pay attention to oral hygiene, brush our teeth on time, try to reduce the consumption of foods that are harmful to teeth, and do not give teeth the chance to develop tooth decay. When you discover that you have tooth decay, you should seek treatment immediately to prevent the situation from becoming more serious.

Types of dental caries

1. Shallow caries:

Caries lesions are in the enamel or root cementum layer. Patients generally have no obvious symptoms, and most of them are discovered during routine examinations.

2. Medium caries:

The leading edge of the lesion is located in the shallow layer of dentin, and obvious caries cavities can be seen or detected during clinical examination or discovered during X-ray photography. Most patients have subjective symptoms, which are mainly manifested as transient sensitivity symptoms caused by stimulation entering the cavity when eating cold, hot, sour or sweet foods.

3. Deep caries:

The lesion progresses to the deep layer of dentin, and obvious caries cavities can be observed clinically, which are very deep and close to the pulp cavity. Patients have obvious sensitivity symptoms after cold, hot, sour, and sweet stimulation, and may also have transient pain symptoms when food is impacted.

4. Root caries:

When the gums recede and the root surface is exposed, caries that occur on the root surface are called root caries, also known as root surface caries.

5. Fierce caries:

In a short period of time (6-12 months), all teeth or multiple teeth or multiple tooth surfaces are affected by caries at the same time; the lesions show the characteristics of acute caries; most of them occur in susceptible people with special pathogenic factors or systemic background. Given that this type of disease process is extremely rapid, it is clinically called aggressive caries or rampant caries.

1. Drug therapy:

It is mainly used for the treatment of early caries. It is suitable for early caries with shallow caries rings and no caries holes formed yet. Commonly used drugs include silver nitrate and sodium fluoride. Ammoniacal silver nitrate and other substances have antiseptic and bactericidal effects and are often used to treat dental caries caused by bacteria. The method of use is: wet a cotton ball with silver ammonia nitrate, and rub the cotton ball on the carious lesion tissue repeatedly for 1-2 minutes. Blow it with hot air until it is dry, then repeat it once, blow it dry again, and repeat it many times. This can effectively treat caries and control bacterial proliferation.

2. Carious tissue removal method:

The treatment area is wider than that of drug therapy. It is mainly used for the treatment of teeth with extensive caries, such as caries on the entire occlusal surface and peeling of the enamel or dentin layer, which cannot be made into a filling cavity. The focus is on grinding away the overly sharp tooth tips, tooth edges and surface carious tissue to prevent the further development of caries.

3. Remineralization of carious tissue:

It refers to the process of applying artificially prepared calcium, phosphorus and fluoride mineralizing fluid to teeth to mineralize the tissue in the tooth diseased area, that is, allowing the calcium, phosphorus and fluoride in the mineralizing fluid to penetrate into the tooth diseased area. This process, which enables the tissue in the affected area to regain minerals, is called remineralization. The remineralization method of carious tissue is suitable for early caries. The specific method is to gargle with artificially prepared mineral liquid. Clinically, the use of remineralization methods to treat early caries can reduce the chalky color or stop its progression. Remineralization therapy is simple, effective, painless and safe.
