The special role of traditional Chinese medicine in comprehensive treatment of tumors

Surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy are still the three major methods for treating tumors. However, surgery can damage internal organs and tissues, causing traumatic bleeding; radiotherapy and chemotherapy lack selectivity, have great toxic side effects on normal tissues, and damage the body's immune function. Combined with traditional Chinese medicine treatment, it can reduce side effects, strengthen anti-cancer effects, enhance immune function, prevent recurrence and metastasis, improve quality of life, and increase survival rate. Therefore, it is very necessary to actively apply traditional Chinese medicine in combination with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and it is also an important method to improve the efficacy.

1. Combination of Chinese medicine and surgery:

(1) Before surgery, the use of Chinese medicine can increase the surgical resection rate and reduce surgical complications, such as the use of Chinese medicine that replenishes qi and blood and strengthens the spleen and kidneys. In addition, the use of anti-cancer Chinese medicine before surgery can also control the development of cancer.

(2) After surgery, Chinese medicine conditioning treatment is used to facilitate recovery after surgery and to create conditions for subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy as soon as possible. Conditioning treatment generally includes methods such as regulating the spleen and stomach, replenishing qi and strengthening the exterior, and nourishing yin and promoting body fluid.

2. Combination of Chinese medicine and radiotherapy:

(1) Prevention and treatment of toxic side effects and sequelae: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that radiation is a hot and toxic evil that can easily damage Yin and consume Qi. Chinese medicine that nourishes Yin and replenishes Qi, clears away heat and detoxifies, and cools and replenishes Qi and blood can reduce oropharyngeal inflammation, nasal inflammation, pneumonia, esophagitis, gastroenteritis, cystitis, radiation hepatitis, radiation brain reaction, and bone marrow suppression caused by radiotherapy. Do not underestimate these toxic side effects of radiation. At the very least, they can affect the quality of life and the successful completion of radiotherapy, and at the worst, they can endanger the patient's life.

(2) Sensitization to radiotherapy: Chinese medicine combined with radiotherapy has a certain synergistic sensitization and enhancement effect. This has been confirmed by a large number of experiments.

(3) Chinese medicine is given after radiotherapy to consolidate the therapeutic effect: Radiotherapy is a local irradiation, which is only lethal within the irradiation range. Cancer cells often metastasize, so it is inevitable that there will be residual cancer cells after radiotherapy. Chinese medicine is a continuous relay treatment after radiotherapy. Long-term medication can improve the long-term efficacy and reduce tumor recurrence.

3. Combination of Chinese medicine and chemotherapy:

(1) Prevention and treatment of toxic and side effects: Traditional Chinese medicine believes that chemotherapy damages Qi and blood. Traditional Chinese medicine can replenish Qi and blood, strengthen the spleen and stomach, and nourish the liver and kidneys. This has a good therapeutic effect on chemotherapy-induced bone marrow suppression, gastrointestinal reactions, toxic myocarditis, hepatitis, and kidney damage. Western medicine is often helpless in these areas.

(2) Enhancement effect on chemotherapy drugs: Many Chinese medicines that strengthen the body can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy when combined with chemotherapy drugs.

4. Anti-cancer treatment mainly based on Chinese medicine:

For patients with advanced tumors who have lost the chance of surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy, the use of Chinese medicine is undoubtedly the best strategy. Based on the patient's physical condition and different types of diseases, large doses of anti-cancer Chinese medicine can be used on the basis of strengthening the body's constitution, in order to achieve the goal of strengthening the body's constitution to eliminate the evil, and eliminating the evil without harming the body's constitution, thereby improving the patient's quality of life and prolonging their survival.
