What happens if beeswax is burned with fire

If beeswax is burned with fire, wax oil will drip out. Burning beeswax with fire can be used to identify whether it is real or fake. When you burn beeswax on fire, a pine scent will appear. The light pine scent smells very pleasant. However, if fake beeswax is burned with fire, the rosin smell will not appear. Fake beeswax may emit white smoke and an unpleasant smell when burning. Let’s talk about what happens when beeswax is burned with fire.

When beeswax is burned with fire, it will have a light pine scent.

After burning for 4-5 seconds, genuine beeswax will emit white smoke with a pine scent, and leave black marks that cannot be wiped off.

After burning for 4-5 seconds, fake beeswax will emit black smoke, turn white, or be odorless. More often, it will smell like an unpleasant plastic smell.

How to identify the authenticity of beeswax:

1. Salt water test method:

The density of amber is between 1.05-1.10. In saturated salt water with a ratio of 1:4 (salt: water), amber, light plastics and resins can float, while ordinary plastics, glass, acrylic and Bakelite sink.

(Reminder: This method is limited to naked amber. Amber with salt water concentration that is not heavy enough or amber with a lot of impurities in its body will also sink)

2. Thermal test:

Burn the needle red and prick the inconspicuous part of the amber, which will have a faint smell of pine fragrance. Bakelite and plastic give off a pungent odor and stick to needles.

(Reminder: Too much heat will leave black spots on the surface of the amber, affecting its appearance)

3. Knife-cut needle test:

Amber will turn into powder if cut with a paper cutter, resin will fall off in chunks, plastic will turn into rolls, and glass cannot be cut.

If you use a hard needle to pierce amber at an angle of 20-30 degrees to the horizontal line, there will be a bursting feeling and very fine powder residue. If it is plastic or other materials with different hardness, it will either be impossible to pierce, or it will feel very sticky and even go in.

(Reminder: This test will damage your jewelry. The cut parts can only be repaired by professionals. It is best not to do it or do it less to avoid damaging the amber.)

4. Nail polish remover:

I rubbed the amber surface repeatedly with a cotton swab, but there was no noticeable change. Plastic, pressed and amber remain unchanged, but resin and copal will corrode and produce sticky pits because they are not petrified. If you soak rosin in potion, it will slowly melt.

(Reminder: Some amber has a layer of polishing material on the outside, which will turn into white spots when wiped with the potion, but this layer of white spots can be scraped off with the fingernail to expose the surface of the amber, and there will be no change when the potion is wiped on it. The potion will still have an 18%-20% melting degree for the amber, and the surface may become foggy after soaking for a long time)

5. Feel:

Amber is a neutral organic gemstone. It won’t be too hot to wear in the summer and it won’t be too cold to wear in the winter. It is very mild. Using glass or chalcedony to protect it will feel cold and heavy.

6. Observe the scales:

This is the main method of identifying inlaid amber. There are usually beautiful lotus leaf scales in the exploded amber. It will feel different when viewed from different angles, and the refractive index will also be different, emitting spiritual light. Fake amber is generally not very transparent, its scales emit a dead light, and it looks similar when observed from different angles. It lacks the aura of amber. The scales and patterns in fake amber are mostly injected, so most of them are the same. The most common scales on the market are red scales.

7. Observe bubbles:

The bubbles in amber are mostly round, while the bubbles in pressed amber are mostly long and flat.

8. Ultraviolet radiation:

Put the amber under the money detector, it will have fluorescent, light green, green, blue, white, etc. The color change of amber and golden amber is the most obvious, while that of blood amber and beeswax is not so obvious. The more transparent the color is, the more obvious it is. Plastic will not change color.

(Reminder: Do not test under strong light or the effect will not be obvious)

9. Fragrance:

Amber has only a very faint smell or no smell at all when rubbed, but amber with skin will produce fragrance when rubbed, and fragrant amber will produce fragrance when rubbed. Amber only emits a pine scent when it burns.

(Reminder: The ones sold on the street stalls have a fragrance even without rubbing, so it’s better to just look at them and not buy them)

10. Sound test:

If you gently rub unmounted amber beads in your hands, they will make a very soft and slightly dull sound. If they are made of plastic or resin, the sound will be crisper.

11. Friction produces static electricity:

Rubbing amber on clothing can attract small pieces of paper.

(Reminder: Excluding copy paper)

12. Spend money on appraisal:

Take it to CMA Jewelry Appraisal Center to measure the refractive index, density, etc.
