Complications of clubfoot surgery

Complications of clubfoot surgery

Clubfoot is actually a congenital disease. Generally speaking, if surgical treatment is performed during infancy, there will be no sequelae. However, even with effective treatment, if the prognosis is not good, recurrence may occur. Today we will introduce some knowledge related to the sequelae of clubfoot surgery, hoping that everyone can better understand the harm of this disease.

Strephenopodia (varus) is a developmental deformity that can be detected at birth and is caused by contracture of the tibialis posterior muscle. The disease is more common in men. Clubfoot can occur in one or both feet and is characterized by the foot turning inward, becoming stiff, and being unable to return to its normal position.

Sequelae of clubfoot correction: Generally there are no sequelae. Many children can run freely like normal people after treatment and will not cause disability. There will be no sequelae if the treatment is timely and appropriate.

Treatment for hallux valgus is:

1. Perform manual correction to make the foot drop and inversion hundreds of times a day. With the increase of age, it can gradually return to normal under correction. You can also use the method of wrapping cotton pads on the outside of the ankle joint.

2. Regardless of the method used, this deformity can generally return to normal shape in about 3 months without leaving any sequelae. Are there any sequelae after correction of clubfoot?

Sequelae of clubfoot correction: There is a certain degree of recurrence

Many children suffer from clubfoot at birth, so it is necessary to detect it in time and know the genetic condition of clubfoot. Although the chance of this disease occurring is very small, only one in a thousand to four in a thousand, it is recurrent.

Specific analysis :

1. Whether a newborn with clubfoot can recover early depends on whether the parents can detect abnormal symptoms early and whether they choose a regular hospital for diagnosis and treatment. If the baby with clubfoot is not treated for a long time or is treated improperly, the consequences will be disastrous.

2. Therefore, if a newborn is found to have clubfoot, parents should not worry but should seek medical treatment in time, preferably in a large hospital.

Prognosis

1. Ponseti therapy is most effective when it is started within 9 months of age (preferably shortly after birth).

This treatment method is still effective for children between 2.9 and 28 months old and can correct all or most of the deformities.

After 28 months, the Ponseti method is still effective, but most children will need surgery at the same time.
