How to distinguish male and female silver arowana

Speaking of the silver arowana, also known as the silver ribbon fish, silver boat fish, and dragon-spitting fish, it is a medium to large freshwater fish. Because it is covered with silver scales, its body is long and ribbon-shaped, flattened on the sides, and its tail is fan-shaped. Its domineering shape makes it very popular among fish lovers. In addition, silver arowana are raised in many places for Feng Shui reasons. If you want to raise silver arowana well, you must not only understand its habits, but also distinguish between males and females. So today I will introduce to you how to distinguish between male and female silver arowana.

The method of distinguishing the sex of silver arowana is as follows :

1. It is not difficult to distinguish the sex of silver arowana. The main differences are: the pelvic fins of male fish are long and pointed, and the abdomen of female fish is more swollen when it matures;

2. A beautiful A-shape can be seen on the gills of the female fish, and the arrow-head part is shorter than that of the male fish. On the contrary, the A-shape of the male fish is irregular and the arrow-head part is longer. Moreover, the entire head of the female fish looks smaller than that of the male fish. Since the male fish has to contain eggs, its head is slightly larger. This is the first point;

3. The body size of the arowana (total length). Although male fish of the same age are longer than female fish due to the size of the tank and the environment, most families set up a tank of about 1800 by 600 by 900. In this case, the growth rate and size of male and female fish will be very different. There is no difference in growth rate from 15cm to 20cm, but starting from 35cm, the growth rate of female fish will slow down significantly. It is possible to lay eggs at around 38cm, and there are examples of spawning. Let's make it clear here that a fat fish does not mean it is big. Here we are referring to its length.

Many dragon lovers have had this experience: the arowana eats normally and is fed high-nutrition premium food every day, but the length of the arowana grows very slowly. On the contrary, its weight and width keep increasing. In this case, it is very likely that the arowana is a female fish. So here I would like to remind everyone not to feed too much food to avoid your beloved fish having high blood lipids. It is very difficult to distinguish the male and female silver dragons, and no one in China has successfully bred them together.
