What are the side effects of taking sildenafil

Every man hopes that his sexual ability can be strong, but the reality is always contrary to one's own ideas. Some men not only cannot have strong sexual ability, but may even have sexual dysfunction, which is what people usually call impotence. At this time, appropriate medication is necessary, but you must also pay attention to the side effects of the drugs. What are the side effects of taking sildenafil?

1. Cardiovascular system: There have been reports of adverse cardiovascular reactions such as myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death, heart failure, arrhythmia, hypotension, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral thrombosis, transient ischemic shock and hypertension. Most of them occurred during or just after sexual activity, some occurred several hours to several days after medication or sexual activity, and a small number even occurred shortly after taking the medicine before sexual activity. It is not yet clear whether these reactions are caused directly by sildenafil or by a combination of factors, such as sexual activity and the patient's cardiovascular condition.

2. Digestive system: Indigestion (7%) and diarrhea (3%) may occur. There have been reports of dry mouth, vomiting, dysphagia, glossitis, gingivitis, stomatitis, esophagitis, gastritis, colitis, abnormal liver function, and rectal bleeding.

3. Blood: There are individual reports of anemia and leukocytopenia.

4. Metabolic/endocrine system: Gout, diabetes, peripheral edema, hyperuricemia, hypoglycemia, hypernatremia, etc. have been reported.

5. Respiratory system: Nasal congestion may occur (4%); there are case reports of asthma, pharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, sputum, cough, and dyspnea.

6. Urinary and reproductive system: Urinary tract infection may occur (3%). There are reports of cystitis, increased nocturia, frequent urination, urinary incontinence, abnormal ejaculation, genital edema, lack of orgasm, etc. There are also case reports of prolonged penile erection (more than 4 hours), abnormal erection (painful erection for more than 6 hours) and hematuria.

7. Central nervous system: Headache (16%) and dizziness (2%) may occur; there are case reports of ataxia, hypertonia, tremor, neuralgia, neuropathy, paresthesia, dizziness, depression, anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness, nightmares, slow reflexes, hypoesthesia, and epileptic seizures.

8. Musculoskeletal system: There are case reports of joint diseases, muscle pain, tendon rupture, tenosynovitis, bone pain, muscle weakness, synovitis, etc.

9. Skin: Facial flushing (10%) and rash (2%) may occur. There are case reports of urticaria, herpes simplex, itching, skin ulcers, contact dermatitis, and exfoliative dermatitis.

10. Eye: There have been reports of pupil dilation, conjunctivitis, eye hemorrhage, cataract, dry eyes, eye pain, photophobia, red eyes or eye congestion, eye burning sensation, eye swelling and pressure, increased intraocular pressure, retinal vascular lesions or hemorrhage, vitreous detachment, and perimacular edema. Mild transient visual abnormalities (3%) may also occur, mainly manifested as pale vision, increased light sensitivity, blurred vision, diplopia, temporary visual loss or decreased vision.

11. Ear: There have been reports of tinnitus and deafness.

12. Others: Systemic reactions may also occur, such as shock, fatigue, pain (such as chest pain), chills, allergic reactions, etc.

Aftereffects

The most common symptoms were headache, facial flushing, indigestion and muscle pain, followed by nasal congestion, diarrhea, dizziness and rash. Occasionally, transient visual abnormalities are seen, usually impaired color discrimination or increased sensitivity to light, with the incidence rate at a 100 mg dose often higher than at a 50 mg dose. The sequelae of sildenafil include serious cardiac events (including myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death, ventricular arrhythmias, cerebrovascular hemorrhage, transient ischemic attack, hypertension), epileptic seizures, anxiety, abnormal erections (painful, erections lasting more than 6 hours), hematuria, diplopia, transient visual loss, decreased vision, eye hemorrhage, eye burning, eye swelling, increased intraocular pressure, retinal vascular disease or hemorrhage, vitreous detachment/traction and macular edema.
