How long does it take for moderate intestinal metaplasia to heal

Moderate intestinal metaplasia is a gastrointestinal mucosal disease, which has a relatively high possibility of leading to cancer. However, as long as the patient receives care and is actively controlled in the early and middle stages, the possibility of cancer is still very small. However, you must pay attention to careful observation during the care process. If there are some other symptoms in the body, go to the hospital for treatment and examination as soon as possible.

Gastric intestinal metaplasia refers to the replacement of gastric mucosal epithelium by intestinal epithelial cells.

Patients with chronic atrophic gastritis often see this term on their gastroscopy and gastric mucosal biopsy reports. In fact, it is not only seen in atrophic gastritis (atrophic gastritis is the most common), but also in the mucosa surrounding gastric ulcers, gastric polyps, and gastric cancer. Many people want to know the significance of intestinal metaplasia and whether it will turn into cancer.

Some people followed up 145 patients with gastric mucosal intestinal metaplasia for many years and found that 15 cases disappeared, accounting for 10.7%; 20 cases improved, accounting for 13.8%; 110 cases remained unchanged, accounting for 75.9%; and 4 cases became cancerous, accounting for 2.75%. Some people also followed up 112 patients with intestinal metaplasia for 6 years and found that 14 cases worsened, accounting for 12.5%; 5 cases developed dysplasia, accounting for 4.5%; and 5 cases developed cancer, accounting for 4.5%. It can be seen from these two statistical results that some intestinal metaplasia may turn into cancer. Intestinal metaplasia is usually divided into small intestinal type intestinal metaplasia (also known as complete type) and large intestinal type intestinal metaplasia (also known as incomplete type), and is also divided into types I, II, and III. Colon-type intestinal metaplasia is most closely related to gastric cancer, and studies have found that the sulfated mucus contained in it has carcinogenic effects. Statistical results show that most of the cancers are caused by colon-type intestinal metaplasia. It is currently believed that gastric mucosal intestinal metaplasia (especially large intestinal type) is a precancerous lesion second only to gastric mucosal dysplasia.

How to treat gastric mucosal intestinal metaplasia has become the focus of every patient's attention.

Intestinal metaplasia of gastric mucosa is a common lesion of gastric mucosa, especially in chronic atrophic gastritis and gastric ulcer. Most of them are small intestinal intestinal metaplasia, which has the nature of an inflammatory response. It worsens with the worsening of inflammation and ulcers and generally does not become cancerous. Although large intestinal intestinal metaplasia is not as common as small intestinal intestinal metaplasia, it is closely related to intestinal gastric cancer and is prone to canceration, especially when accompanied by dysplasia, the chance of canceration will increase. Therefore, each patient should be treated according to their specific circumstances. Generally, mild intestinal metaplasia will not lead to cancer; however, for severe intestinal metaplasia, especially the large intestine type, attention should be paid to follow-up to prevent and promptly detect cancer; if accompanied by severe atrophic gastritis or dysplasia, regular reexamination should be performed and surgical resection should be performed if necessary.
