Chicken bile tastes very bitter. It is the juice extracted from the chicken's bile. Although it does not taste good, it can be used to treat many diseases. If people had never known about it before, they might find it incredible that chicken bile can be used as medicine and have such great effects. In fact, there is no need for people to be too surprised. If you understand the effects and functions of chicken bile, you will be able to understand it.

As the name suggests, chicken bile is the juice extracted from the chicken's gall bladder. It tastes bitter and is a cold medicine. It is mainly used to clear heat and toxins from the body, excrete fire, eliminate phlegm and relieve cough, regulate blood lipids and blood pressure, resist fatigue, and can also inhibit acute and chronic inflammation. Because of its many functions and effects, it is currently widely used in clinical practice, for example: whooping cough, chronic bronchitis, treatment of hemorrhoids, etc.

Pharmacological Action

The main component of chicken bile is chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA). Studies have found that chenodeoxycholic acid has pharmacological effects such as promoting the secretion of bile and bile salts, dissolving gallstones, enhancing the activity of pancreatic lipase, promoting the digestion of fat by pancreatic lipase, and having anti-inflammatory, antitussive, and anti-hypertensive effects.

Although chicken gall has the effects of clearing the lungs, relieving cough, relieving asthma, clearing away heat and detoxifying, there are various folk remedies using chicken bile, but you must use the right method and not take it indiscriminately. After all, folk remedies have limited applicability. Whether it is chicken gall, fish gall, or snake gall, if you consume it casually unless it is necessary to treat an illness, it may not only be of no benefit, but may even cause acute renal damage.

Clinical Application

1. Whooping cough: In addition to conventional treatment, chicken bile oral liquid is used as an auxiliary treatment for whooping cough syndrome. The results show that this drug can alleviate clinical symptoms and shorten the disappearance time of spasmodic cough, cock-like echo, vomiting after coughing, paroxysmal cyanosis, fever, and lung rales.

2. Chronic tracheitis: After taking chicken bile tablets, especially compound chicken bile tablets, patients with chronic tracheitis feel their larynx loosen, phlegm is easier to cough up, and the amount of phlegm is significantly reduced. There are also cases where the patient was clinically cured but then relapsed due to a cold and was cured again using chicken bile tablets.

3. Bacillary dysentery in children: Dry chicken gall powder and an appropriate amount of lactose can be used to make 25% bile powder, which has an inhibitory effect on Shigella flexneri.
