What is the reason for ear pain on one side

In daily life, we may occasionally experience the adverse reaction of ear pain on one side. What causes ear pain on one side? If there is pressure-type pain, then this type of pain is most likely due to otitis media. Many friends don’t know much about otitis media, and don’t know much about how to deal with it. Let me give you a detailed explanation of the relevant knowledge about otitis media.

Otitis media is one of the main factors leading to hearing loss and deafness. In recent years, tinnitus and deafness caused by otitis media have been on the rise. In cases like Mr. Zhang, if not treated in time, he is likely to develop deafness. To protect your ears, you must first prevent and treat otitis media.

Recognize otitis media

Otitis media is divided into two major categories: non-suppurative and suppurative, both of which are further divided into acute and chronic.

Acute non-suppurative otitis media is secretory otitis media, which is mostly caused by acute blockage of the Eustachian tube, resulting in disorders of its ventilation and excretion functions. The main symptoms are: stuffiness and blockage in the ear, tinnitus and hearing loss, and muffled voice.

Chronic non-suppurative otitis media means no suppuration, but the ears feel stuffy and the hearing is decreased. This is caused by the Eustachian tube being often blocked or obstructed, which prevents the tympanic secretions from escaping and causes the mucosa to become thickened. Over time, it can easily develop into deafness.

Acute suppurative otitis media is caused by the invasion of suppurative pathogens into the tympanic cavity, causing acute suppurative inflammation of the tympanic cavity mucosa. Its symptoms include ear pain, pus discharge, hearing loss, dizziness, fever, etc.

Chronic suppurative otitis media, commonly known as "stinky ears", not only damages hearing but also is prone to serious complications.

Complications are aggressive

The ear is divided into the outer ear, middle ear and inner ear. The structure of the middle ear is relatively complex. The volume of its ear cavity is only 2 mm, and it contains the ossicular chain and facial nerve. Due to long-term erosion of otitis media, serious complications will occur. The top wall of the middle ear is a very thin bone plate, which is connected to the brain and can easily cause meningitis; its bottom wall is also a bone wall, which is closely connected to the internal jugular vein. Bacterial invasion can cause inflammation of the internal jugular vein; its front wall is the only passage between the ear, nose and pharynx, and chronic rhinitis and pharyngitis are often caused by this.

In addition, otitis media can also cause dizziness, facial neuritis, edema, and even crooked mouth, squinting eyes, facial paralysis, etc.
