How to install the zipper?

In daily life, we often encounter situations where zippers are broken. In fact, the principles of zippers are very simple. I can observe the severity of the damage to the zipper. If it is only slightly damaged, I can take some repair methods. If the zipper is seriously damaged, it is necessary to replace it with a new one. So after removing the old zipper, how do you install the new zipper?

How to install the zipper?

1. Use a lighter to burn the cut edges of the tape to prevent it from falling off.

2. Pull the zipper head into the teeth in an upward direction, pinch both ends of the tape (arrow position) and pull outwards together (as shown in the figure). The zipper head will go into the teeth under the outward tension of the tape.

3. After the cloth tape is pulled out, the slider is installed.

4. Use diagonal pliers to pull out the excess teeth.

5. Install the upper and lower stops.

Zipper repair method:

1. If the iron edges on both sides of the zipper fall off. Repair method: Fold one end of a staple inward so that it is parallel to the iron rod, and straighten the other end. According to the length of the zipper iron edge that has fallen off, cut off the excess part of the staple from the straightened end. The cut staples should be placed on the original iron edge, with the folded end placed underneath, flush with the bottom edge of the zipper, and the other end folded to the same point. Then use a windbreaker needle to sew the two pieces back and forth tightly with a lock stitch, wrap the staples inside, and the width should be equal to the original iron edge; sew the staples on the bottom edge tightly with thread, make the seam smooth, and then touch it with wax. This way, the repair effect will be the same as the original iron edge, and it can be opened and pulled freely.

2. If the zipper is missing teeth. Repair method: Use a pointed mouth or tweezers to pry open the zipper teeth at the original tail and remove a few teeth. After installing them in the place where the teeth fell off, use a pointed mouth to gently press the teeth against the edge of the fabric to make it bite firmly.

3. Sometimes the zipper cannot be opened, or it cannot be pulled halfway. This is because the teeth of the zipper are crooked or the fibers of the fabric tape are loose. If the teeth of the zipper are crooked, you can first use a steel needle to straighten them, then flatten them, and then use a small hammer to gently flatten the teeth of the zipper, and the zipper will work properly. If the tape is loose, you can pull the parts of the tape that don't match hard so that the teeth of the zipper are evenly arranged and you can zip it up.

4. There are two reasons why the zipper is not smooth: one is that the chain teeth are rusted or stained with dust; the other is that something like cloth edge is caught in the zipper. For the former, just rub wax gently on both sides of the zipper to make it smooth; for the latter, slowly return the key head to its original position to remove foreign matter. The zipper cannot be closed because the distance between the upper and lower pieces of the chain head has been enlarged or fixed after a long period of use. You only need to clamp it up and down or left and right with pliers, but be careful not to use excessive force to avoid damaging it.
