Scales are mostly sticky and only come off the hair shaft and onto clothing after brushing or combing. Patients with pityriasis capitis have an increased susceptibility to seborrheic dermatitis. Mild seborrheic dermatitis, sometimes called pityriasis steatoides, has larger, thicker, and more sticky scales. If the scales are forcibly peeled off, the scalp underneath will be moist and red.

Medication

For mild cases, apply 2% salicylic acid ointment locally and wash it off with cleansing shampoo after 1 to 2 hours. Using tar shampoo once a week will produce satisfactory results.
