There are many reasons that may cause low serum globulin levels, such as damaged liver function, long-term use of immune-suppressing drugs, etc. Low serum globulin levels often reflect weaker immunity of the body. If the serum globulin is only slightly low, generally there is no big problem. If it is seriously too low, corresponding examinations and related treatments are needed. Normal values of globulin: Globulin is a serum protein present in the human body. It is a common protein that exists in almost all plants and animals. Globulin has immune effects, so some people also call globulin immunoglobulin. The normal value of globulin is 20~30 g/L. Globulin can be divided into four types: α1, α2, β and γ. 1. When the liver is inflamed, α1 globulin increases. An increase in α1 indicates a milder condition, while a decrease often indicates a more severe condition. Therefore, the determination of α1 globulin has reference value for judging the severity and prognosis of hepatitis patients. 2. α2 globulin can also reflect the severity of hepatitis lesions. In the early stages of viral hepatitis, most levels remain at normal values and then gradually increase. In severe hepatitis, if α2 globulin decreases to below 0.4 g/L, it indicates that the patient is about to develop or has already developed hepatic coma. In liver cancer, α2 globulin often increases. α2 contains lipoprotein. When cholestasis occurs, especially in chronic cases, when blood lipids increase, α2 globulin increases accordingly. In decompensated cirrhosis, α2 globulin is often decreased. 3. β-globulin usually increases in cholestatic liver disease. When liver cells are severely damaged, beta globulin decreases due to reduced liver synthesis and can drop below 6% in some cases. 4. Gamma globulin increases in almost all hepatobiliary diseases. Cirrhosis of the liver. In severe hepatitis, gamma globulin may increase significantly, even to 2.5g/L-3g/L. If gamma globulin increases to more than twice the normal level, accompanied by transaminase more than 5 times the normal value. If there is no improvement for 10 weeks, it can be confirmed as subacute severe hepatitis. If not treated, the prognosis will be grim. In chronic hepatitis, the average value of gamma globulin varies with the type of disease. Gamma globulin is generally elevated in cirrhosis, especially in late stage or progressive decompensated cirrhosis, when it may be extremely elevated. The level of globulin must be maintained at a certain level. If the globulin test value exceeds the normal value, it means that the immune system is hyperactive in the body. If the globulin test value is lower than the normal value, it means that the immunity is insufficient. Warm reminder: When low globulin levels appear in clinical practice, patients should undergo further examinations in a timely manner to find out the cause and receive symptomatic treatment. If it is caused by hepatitis, it means that the liver is further deteriorating and needs to be treated in time. |
