The difference between formula milk and pure milk

There are many formula milk products on the market now, which gives us more choices. So how do you choose between formula milk and pure milk? What is the difference between the two? In fact, the main difference is the ingredients and milk content. Formulated milk does not have the 100% milk content like pure milk. It is a food with an 80% milk content made to cater to the taste of the general public.

What is formula milk? According to the "National Food Safety Standard - Formulated Milk" GB 25191-2010, the definition of formula milk is: a liquid product made with no less than 80% raw cow (sheep) milk or reconstituted milk as the main raw material, adding other raw materials or food additives or nutritional enhancers, and using appropriate sterilization and other processes. Pure milk is a liquid product made from raw cow (sheep) milk, with or without reconstituted milk, heated to at least 132°C and sterilized for a very short time in a continuous flow state, and then made through aseptic filling and other processes.

There are two major differences between formula milk and pure milk:

First, the milk content is different: pure milk is required to contain 100% milk, while formula milk is required to contain no less than 80%;

The second is the difference in ingredients: pure milk requires that no other substances be added and it is 100% cow's milk, while formula milk, in addition to more than 80% raw cow's milk, can be added with other raw materials, food additives, nutritional fortifiers, etc.

The food safety standards have clear requirements for the protein content in pasteurized milk, sterilized milk and formula milk, which are: pasteurized milk and sterilized milk ≥ 2.9 (2.9g/100g); formula milk ≥ 2.3 (2.3g/100g). However, in the nutritional composition table of some formula milk, it can be seen that the protein content of formula milk is not lower than that of pure milk.

Dairy products include liquid milk, milk powder and other dairy products. Liquid milk includes pasteurized milk, sterilized milk, formula milk and fermented milk. In other words, formula milk is a type of liquid milk. Objectively speaking, formula milk can meet the special needs of special groups of people to a great extent. Most of them are designed from the perspective of consumer demand. For example, Shuhua milk can meet the milk needs of people who are lactose intolerant. High-calcium and high-zinc milks are added with nutritional enhancers, and the content of certain nutrients will be higher than that of pure milk.
