The difference between buttock injection and drip

Buttock injections and intravenous drips are often used to treat diseases. Many friends do not understand these two methods of infusion and do not know what the difference is. There is a better way to choose each drug, and the way it enters the human body is also particular. Therefore, skin injections and intravenous drips are both good treatment methods, but you should follow the doctor's advice on which method to use.

Buttocks needle concept

An injection into a muscle at a suitable location behind the buttocks.

advantage

An injection in the buttocks is a type of intramuscular injection and is also widely recommended. This is because the buttocks muscles are relatively thick and less irritating, making it difficult to pierce deeper blood vessels and avoid damaging bones. In addition, the muscle tissue here is loose and has abundant blood vessels, which is conducive to drug absorption. It should be noted that there are many nerves distributed around the buttocks. Therefore, in order to avoid damaging the nerves, needles in the buttocks are injected in the upper outer 1/4 of the buttocks on one side.

Injection positioning

Gluteus maximus injection positioning Gluteus maximus injection positioning method 1:

Gluteus maximus injection location

Cross-line method: draw a horizontal line from the apex of the gluteal cleft to the left or right side, and then make a vertical bisector from the highest point of the iliac crest. The injection site is at the upper outer 1/4. Be careful to avoid inner corners.

Method 2:

Using the line method, the upper and outer 1/3 of the line connecting the anterior superior iliac spine and the coccyx is the injection site.

Injection positioning for gluteus medius and gluteus minimus: ① Place the tip of the index finger on the anterior superior iliac spine and the tip of the middle finger on the lower edge of the iliac crest. A triangular area is formed between the two fingers, which is the injection site.

Gluteus medius and gluteus minimus injection location

② Three horizontal fingers outside the anterior superior iliac spine. Note that the patient should use his own fingers as the reference.

Vastus lateralis injection location: mid-thigh lateral side Adults: 10cm below the hip joint to 10cm above the knee joint, 7.5cm wide on the lateral side of the thigh

What is intravenous infusion?

Introduction

The injection of large amounts of fluid, electrolytes, or blood into a vein is called intravenous infusion. Due to the differences in injection sites and infusions, it can be divided into peripheral intravenous infusion, central venous infusion, highly nutritious infusion (TPN) and blood transfusion.

Advantages of intravenous infusion

1. It is easy to achieve the therapeutic concentration of the drug and maintain the constant concentration required for the therapeutic effect. 2. Drugs that are irritating to muscles and subcutaneous tissues can be administered intravenously. 3. It can quickly replenish the fluid or blood lost by the body. 4. Infusion of intravenous nutrients.

Disadvantages of IV fluids

1. Improper handling may easily lead to systemic or local infection. 2. Overdose or too rapid infusion of drugs may easily cause adverse reactions and even endanger life. 3. Continuous excessive infusion may easily cause excessive circulatory load or electrolyte imbalance. 4. The increase of iatrogenic diseases.

Intravenous infusion precautions

1. Strictly implement aseptic operation and checking system. Pay attention to drug incompatibility.

2. Replace the solution bottle or add solution in time during the infusion process, and remove the needle in time after the infusion is completed.

3. Strengthen inspections during the infusion process to observe any infusion reactions and eliminate infusion faults in a timely manner.
