What is the difference between blood sugar and urine sugar

What is the difference between blood sugar and urine sugar

There is actually a difference between blood sugar and urine sugar, but some friends still don’t understand the situation between the two. There is a difference between high blood sugar and high urine sugar. High urine sugar generally occurs in patients with diabetes, while blood sugar refers to the sugar content in human blood. During physical examinations, the detection methods for these two are also different, which everyone needs to understand.

There are two major differences between high blood sugar and high urine sugar:

First of all, generally speaking, the urine of a healthy person will not contain sugar. People who have sugar in their urine are mostly diabetics. Because diabetic patients lack insulin in their bodies, they cannot break down the sugar in the blood normally, which leads to high blood sugar in the patients. However, the kidneys can excrete excess sugar in the blood through the urine. Therefore, the urine of diabetic patients contains a lot of sugar. This is what people often call glycosuria. However, normal people can break down the sugar in the blood, so normal people rarely have glycosuria.

Secondly, high blood sugar is not exclusive to diabetics. In fact, normal people may also have high blood sugar, such as high blood sugar caused by consuming a large amount of sugar in a short period of time. This situation does not cause harm to people's bodies. Basically everyone will have high blood sugar, especially after meals. This situation will occur briefly every day, but it will not cause people to have symptoms of glucosuria. People need to be reminded that high blood sugar can also cause diabetes if it is not treated and controlled in time.

Through the above introduction, I believe people have a clearer understanding of the difference between high blood sugar and high urine sugar. I hope people should learn more about this knowledge in their daily lives, so that they can deal with such situations calmly if they encounter them in life. People need to be reminded that no matter which situation occurs, it is not good for health. You should pay more attention to your diet and develop a healthy and reasonable diet structure with balanced nutrition. If you have diabetes, you should actively receive treatment and control your blood sugar to avoid serious consequences.

What are the other main tests?

1. Blood glucose (GLu): refers to the glucose content in the blood. The normal fasting blood sugar reference value is 3.9-6.1 mmol/L (or 70-110 mg/dL). Increased fasting blood sugar is the main basis for diagnosing diabetes.

2. Glucose tolerance test (GTT): It is a test to check the blood sugar regulation function of pancreatic islet cells, and is especially effective for patients with latent or suspected diabetes. After normally ingesting sugar, the peak blood sugar level usually occurs within half an hour, sometimes within 1 hour, and does not exceed 8.9-10.0 mmol/L; it returns to the level before ingesting sugar within 2 hours. If blood sugar exceeds 10.0 mmol/L after consuming sugar and does not return to normal after 2-3 hours, it is abnormal.

Glycated hemoglobin (GHb): refers to hemoglobin combined with sugar, the normal value is 4%-6% of the total hemoglobin. The levels in diabetics can be 2-4 times higher than normal. After the disease is controlled through treatment, GHb levels can return to normal in about 2 months. This measurement can reflect the overall changes in blood sugar in the past two months and help determine the degree of disease control.
