Spider nevi are a relatively common vascular disease and are also a disease caused by health problems such as cirrhosis. Therefore, if you want to treat spider nevi, you must first treat the primary disease, that is, cirrhosis. Spider nevi can appear in various parts of the human body, such as on the arms, shoulders, fingers, and neck. Below, I will introduce you to the relevant knowledge about spider nevi in detail! 1. Common Locations of Spider Nevus Spider angiomas are red vascular lesions. There is a bulge in the center, with many capillaries extending out in all directions like spider legs. The characteristic lesion is a type of telangiectasia, and spider nevi can range in diameter from a few millimeters to several centimeters. They may be present singly or in multiples, usually on the neck and face, less commonly on the shoulders, throat, arms, fingers and backs of hands, lips and nasal mucosa, and rarely on the wrists, lips, ears, nail beds or palms. In many cases, spider angiomas are often associated with cirrhosis of the liver and are also seen in hyperestrogenic states, such as pregnancy or in people taking hormonal contraceptives. It may occur suddenly during the 2nd to 3rd month of pregnancy, gradually increase in number and size, and disappear 6 weeks after delivery. Occasionally there are some remnants. These spider nevi can also be found in older patients, but they are smaller and less numerous. They can persist or disappear on their own. 2. Causes of symptoms Cirrhosis: Multiple spider nevi are a sign of cirrhosis and are often a late sign of cirrhosis. As the disease progresses, spider nevi will increase in number and size. Other symptoms include a wide range of liver dysfunction and portal hypertension. Splenomegaly and hematemesis suggest portal hypertension. Other skin changes include severe itching and dryness, palmar erythema, and decreased skin elasticity. The main liver-related manifestations include jaundice, ascites, and lower limb edema. It is common for right upper quadrant pain to worsen when the patient sits or leans forward. Patients may also have cardinal signs of hepatic encephalopathy, such as slurred speech, asterixis, hepatic odor, and decreased level of consciousness, eventually progressing to coma. Male patients experience testicular atrophy, breast development, and loss of armpit and chest hair; female patients experience irregular menstruation. 3. Treatment Methods Generally no treatment is required, but if necessary, fuel laser can be used to remove the raised blood vessels in the center. If caused by cirrhosis, the related disease should be treated. |
