In traditional Chinese medicine, kidney deficiency includes four parts, among which the most common manifestations in clinical practice are kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency, that is, kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. However, many people are still not clear about the difference between kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. Today, let us understand the difference between kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. When replenishing kidney deficiency, you must first know whether you have kidney yang deficiency or kidney yin deficiency, and you must prescribe the right medicine.

1. The difference between kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency

Kidney Yin deficiency and kidney Yang deficiency are terms in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Kidney Yin deficiency and kidney Yang deficiency refer to the symptoms of kidney function in Traditional Chinese Medicine. When we usually talk about kidney deficiency, it actually includes kidney Yin deficiency and kidney Yang deficiency, as well as deficiency of both Yin and Yang.

2. Clinical manifestations of kidney yang deficiency:

Kidney Yang deficiency refers to the symptoms of kidney Yang deficiency and functional decline. Weak and painful waist and knees, or impotence, cold semen, infertility due to uterine cold in women, decreased libido; or prolonged loose stools, undigested food, diarrhea at dawn; or edema (severe swelling below the waist), which is concave when pressed, or even abdominal distension and pain, palpitations, wheezing and coughing; pale or dark complexion, fear of cold and cold limbs, especially in the lower limbs, dizziness, listlessness, clear and long urination or frequent urination at night, pale and fat tongue with white and slippery coating, and slow, weak or feeble pulse.

3. Clinical manifestations of kidney yin deficiency

Kidney Yin deficiency refers to the symptoms of insufficient kidney Yin and internal disturbance of virtual fire. Dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, frequent dreams, forgetfulness, soreness of waist and knees, hypersexuality, spermatorrhea, oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea in women, or metrorrhagia, weight loss, dry throat and mouth, hot flashes, fever in the five parts of the body, night sweats, red cheeks, red tongue with little or no coating, and a thin and rapid pulse.

4. The key points of the difference between kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency:

Kidney Yang deficiency is often accompanied by symptoms of cold: such as fear of cold, cold limbs, listlessness, clear and long urination, pale and fat tongue with white coating, and deep, slow and weak pulse; Kidney Yin deficiency is often accompanied by symptoms of deficiency heat: dry mouth and throat, hot flashes, red cheeks, fever in the five hearts, night sweats, red tongue with little coating, and a thin and rapid pulse. In short, the key to distinguishing between yang deficiency and yin deficiency is to distinguish between cold and heat. Yang deficiency is cold, and yin deficiency is hot.

5. How to distinguish kidney yin deficiency from kidney yang deficiency

1. Look at sexual function. People with Yin deficiency are more likely to suffer from premature ejaculation and nocturnal emission; people with Yang deficiency are more likely to suffer from impotence.

2. Check whether it is hot or cold. Fear of cold and cold hands and feet are signs of yang deficiency; heat in the five parts of the body and easy night sweats are signs of yin deficiency.

3. Check your bowel movements. People with yellow urine and constipation are mostly suffering from Yin deficiency; people with clear and long urine and loose stools are mostly suffering from Yang deficiency.

4. Look at age. Generally speaking, young and middle-aged people are prone to kidney yin deficiency, while middle-aged and elderly people are prone to kidney yang deficiency. Young and middle-aged people have heavy burdens and consume a lot of physical material, so they are prone to material scarcity, and therefore they are more likely to suffer from yin deficiency; it is different for middle-aged and elderly people, as their physical material consumption is much lower, but their organs are gradually aging and their functions are often not good, so they often suffer from functional kidney deficiency, which is kidney yang deficiency.
