What's in the fridge

Refrigerators, as household appliances, have become an indispensable tool in our lives. Because of the invention of refrigerators, the shelf life of our food can be extended. In summer, many foods are particularly easy to spoil. At this time, putting them in the refrigerator can effectively prevent food from spoiling. However, some people don’t know what to put in the refrigerator after buying it. So what should you put in the refrigerator?

A refrigerator is a refrigeration device that maintains a constant low temperature. It is also a civilian product that keeps food or other items in a constant low temperature state. The cabinet or box inside the box contains a compressor, an ice maker for freezing, and a storage box with a refrigeration device. The capacity of a household refrigerator is usually 20 to 500 liters. In 1910, the world's first compression refrigeration household refrigerator was introduced in the United States. In 1925, the Swedish Lido company developed the absorption refrigerator for home use. In 1927, General Electric Company of the United States developed a fully enclosed refrigerator. In 1930, air-cooled continuous diffusion absorption refrigerators using different heating methods were launched on the market. In 1931, a new refrigerant, Freon 12, was successfully developed. In the second half of the 1950s, household thermoelectric refrigerators began to be produced, and China began to produce electric refrigerators in the 1950s.

Humans have known since early times that food is less likely to spoil if stored at lower temperatures. More than 2,000 years BC, ancient residents of the Euphrates and Tigris River basins in ancient Babylon in Western Asia began to pile ice in pits to refrigerate meat. China also knew how to use ice to refrigerate and preserve food during the Shang Dynasty (early 17th century BC to 11th century BC). In the Middle Ages, many countries had primitive refrigerators that placed ice cubes in special water cabinets or stone cabinets to preserve food. This type of refrigerator was still sold in the United States until the 1850s.

Gas phenomenon. In the process of changing from liquid to gas, it absorbs a large amount of heat, causing the surrounding temperature to drop rapidly. Faraday's discovery provided a theoretical basis for later generations to invent artificial refrigeration technologies such as compressors.

The first artificial refrigeration compressor was invented by Harrison in 1851. Harrison was the owner of the Geelong Advertiser in Australia. When he was using ether to clean type, he discovered that ether had a strong cooling effect when applied to metal. Ether is a liquid with a very low boiling point, and it easily undergoes evaporation and endothermic phenomena. After research, Harrison developed a refrigerator using ether and a pressure pump, and used it in a winery in Victoria, Australia, for refrigeration during winemaking.
