Methods/Steps

Since aloe vera juice has such good effects, Xiaoli, who had chloasma and pigmentation spots on her face, cut a little bit of the aloe vera she grew and applied the milk-like juice directly on her face. Xiaoli thinks this is both economical and convenient, so why not do it? However, after doing this for a few days, not only did the facial spots not go away, but large patches of bright red macules appeared, covered with densely packed small red rashes. I had no choice but to go to the hospital to see a doctor.

Fresh aloe vera juice should not be applied casually

The doctor said that this was contact dermatitis caused by fresh aloe vera juice. The appearance of macular rash was considered a mild symptom. In severe cases, the eyes would swell like grapes and could not be opened. There might also be a large number of blisters the size of soybeans, oozing yellow fluid, and the entire face would feel burning and painful. Why does fresh aloe vera juice cause contact dermatitis?

The face is the most delicate part of the body, and every skin care product needs to be carefully selected.

Contact dermatitis caused by fresh aloe vera juice is more common in patients with other allergic diseases (such as bronchial asthma, eczema, hereditary allergic dermatitis, chronic urticaria, etc.). Fresh aloe vera juice contains aloin, resin, anthraquinone and other chemical substances, which are medically called haptens. After fresh aloe vera juice is applied to the facial skin, it combines with the epidermal protein to form a substance that can cause an allergic reaction in the body, which is medically called a complete antigen. The whole antigen substance can change the activity of ordinary lymphocytes in the skin, transforming ordinary lymphocytes into sensitized lymphocytes. Sensitized lymphocytes can release a variety of lymphokines. These lymphokines can cause severe inflammatory reactions in human skin, causing dilation of skin capillaries and the appearance of large erythema, and plasma seeping out of blood vessels, causing skin redness, blisters and yellow water discharge. This is the pathogenesis of contact dermatitis caused by fresh aloe juice.

Fresh aloe vera juice should not be applied casually

When the skin comes into contact with fresh aloe juice for the first time, the process from the formation of full antigens, the sensitization of lymphocytes to the appearance of skin inflammatory reaction takes 4-5 days. If it comes into contact with fresh aloe juice for the second time, the disease will generally occur after 12-48 hours.

Therefore, fresh aloe vera juice cannot be applied directly to the facial skin. It needs to undergo professional extraction, screening, desensitization and other treatments before it can be used. If contact dermatitis caused by fresh aloe vera juice occurs, treatment should be sought under the guidance of a dermatologist.
