Will cheilitis heal on its own?

Will cheilitis heal on its own?

The skin tissue of the lips is relatively weak, and some infection symptoms often appear, causing great harm to the area around the lips. Among them, pericheilitis is one of the common symptoms, which will cause very serious pain to patients. Moreover, the onset period of pericheilitis is relatively long, causing great pain to the patient's life. So, will pericheilitis heal on its own? Let’s take a look at the explanation below.

The main symptoms of cheilitis

A red papular rash often occurs around the mouth and chin. The initial symptoms are redness and itching of the skin around the mouth, with rice-sized papules appearing in the affected area, which may be sparsely scattered or clustered in patches. Over time, blisters and pustules may appear on the papules, which are yellow-white in color, surrounded by a red halo, and feel burning.

Treatment of cheilitis:

1. Western medicine:

Bifonazole is an antifungal drug. If no spores or hyphae are found in the fungal smear or culture, and fungal infection can be reliably ruled out, it does not need to be used. In the past, antibiotics were generally effective in treatment (if it is a fungal infection, it should not be used). Patients with mild perioral dermatitis who do not want to take oral antibiotics can apply 0.75% metronidazole gel or cream twice a day. Stubborn cases can also be treated with oral retinoic acid. Use sulfur and resorcinol preparations externally; take vitamin B2, B6 or vitamin B compound internally; avoid external application of fluorinated corticosteroid emulsions. Chinese herbal decoctions are mainly used to regulate the spleen and stomach, clear away heat and dampness. For external treatment, 5% sulfur cream is applied externally, once in the morning and once in the evening.

2. Chinese medicine prescription:
