Does saliva include other routes of transmission of hepatitis C?

Does saliva include other routes of transmission of hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a contagious disease. Although it is a very old disease, it is highly contagious. Now many units have patients suffering from hepatitis C. They have to suspend work during normal times, wear masks, and avoid contact with dense crowds. In addition to saliva, hepatitis C is also transmitted through blood, sexual transmission, mother-to-child transmission, etc. These require special attention and precautions must be taken during the illness.

Hepatitis C is an ancient sexually transmitted disease that is highly contagious and difficult to cure.

You may know something about hepatitis C. In fact, it is very easy to prevent as long as you know the transmission routes of hepatitis C. However, there are still many people who suffer from hepatitis C for various reasons. This is the result of people's usual lack of attention. So, how exactly is hepatitis C transmitted?

How Hepatitis C is Transmitted

1. Transmission through blood : HCV is mainly transmitted through blood or blood products. Post-transfusion hepatitis C can be caused not only by transfusion of whole blood, but also by transfusion of fresh plasma, coagulation factors, platelet concentrate, albumin, etc. The more times the blood is received, the higher the hepatitis virus infection rate. If the patient has weak resistance, the amount of blood transfusion is large, and the hepatitis virus replicates actively in the transfused blood, the recipient will be more likely to suffer from post-transfusion acute severe hepatitis or subacute severe hepatitis, and the prognosis will be poor and the mortality rate will be very high.

2. Transmission through sexual contact : Studies have found that the incidence of hepatitis C is significantly correlated with sexual contact, especially contact with multiple sexual partners.

3. Mother-to-child transmission : This route is far less common and is mainly transmitted at the family level.

4. Daily life contact : After testing, the semen, saliva and vaginal secretions of hepatitis C patients were positive for HCV RNA, indicating that HCV may be transmitted through sexual contact and daily life contact, but the probability is low.

The disease of hepatitis C patients can last for 10-20 years, then develop into cirrhosis, and some may develop into liver cancer after 20-30 years. How to control hepatitis C infection has become a concern of medical experts in various countries. Blood transfusion and injection are the main links for the transmission of hepatitis C. Therefore, strict management of blood sources and blood products and prevention of transmission caused by infected injection equipment have become important preventive measures. Anti-HCV positive people should be strictly prohibited from donating blood. At the same time, the indications for blood transfusion and blood products should be strictly controlled and their use should be reduced as much as possible. Promote the use of disposable syringes to prevent cross infection, and carefully handle all items stained with infected blood. Mothers with hepatitis C or HCV-RNA or anti-HCV positive should be isolated during delivery, have special beds for delivery, strictly disinfect instruments, and observe the babies.

The effective prevention and ultimate control of hepatitis C depends on the preparation of hepatitis C vaccine. Many researchers are working on this.

Hepatitis C is a contagious disease. I hope the above introduction to the transmission routes of hepatitis C will be helpful to hepatitis C patients. In normal times, once you find symptoms of hepatitis C, you must go to the hospital for treatment in time. Do not delay treatment to avoid serious consequences.
