Judging from the clinical symptoms, there are many causes of hyperthyroidism, among which heredity, work fatigue, emotional depression, and high mental stress are the key factors leading to this disease, and it often occurs in female friends. After suffering from this disease, the patient will show symptoms such as excessive sweating, bad temper, fear of heat, large appetite but getting hungry quickly, insomnia at night, irritability, accelerated heartbeat, etc. 1. Causes of hyperthyroidism (1) It is genetics, and the second is the iodine content in food. In the past, people believed that iodine deficiency was the main cause of hyperthyroidism, but current research has also found that excessive iodine intake can also cause hyperthyroidism. (2) Overwork, emotional depression, and long-term high stress are also triggers of hyperthyroidism. (3) Most patients with hyperthyroidism are women, which is related to their physiological structure and the lack of endocrine activity and stability. (4) Hyperthyroidism is more likely to occur in the summer because the body’s metabolism is active at this time. In hot weather, water and nutrients in the body are more easily lost. Coupled with the heat and insomnia, emotional instability, it is easy to cause endocrine disorders, thereby inducing hyperthyroidism. 2. Symptoms of thyroid disease The main symptoms of hyperthyroidism are: fear of heat, excessive sweating, easy hunger, weight loss and fatigue after eating a lot, bad temper, unstable temperament, frequent insomnia and irritability, shortness of breath after activity, increased frequency of bowel movements but no diarrhea, occasional trembling hands, pulse more than 90 beats per minute, bilateral symmetrical diffuse enlargement of the thyroid gland, but a smooth surface without nodules, and about 50% of patients have bilateral exophthalmos. People with the above symptoms should be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. If treatment is delayed, many complications may occur, such as thyroid heart disease, hyperthyroid myopathy, etc. If an infectious disease or major stimulation occurs at this time, hyperthyroid crisis may occur, which can easily cause death. Among all the complications, the one that patients feel is most obvious but ashamed to talk about is the impact on sexual function. Professor Chao said that data show that 10% to 20% of patients have hypersexuality, especially those with mild hyperthyroidism. About 5% of patients have no changes in sexual desire; 30%~40% of patients experience decreased sexual desire; some male patients may also have impotence. Female patients often have menstrual disorders, the main manifestations of which are scanty menstruation or amenorrhea, prolonged, shortened or irregular menstrual cycles, 5% to 10% with enhanced orgasm and sexual excitement responses, and 15% with slight weakening. The most common complaints are impotence or amenorrhea. Although about 4% of male patients may suffer from impotence, the mechanism of occurrence is still unclear and may be related to complications such as heart disease, liver damage, and myopathy. |
