How to deal with the strong burning sensation on fingers after cutting peppers

After people cut peppers, if they don't do anything special, they will generally feel a strong burning sensation on their fingers. This is because the capsaicin in the peppers stimulates the surface of the human skin, causing a burning sensation. There are actually many ways to deal with this burning sensation, but the most effective method is still something people will come up with after some trial and error.

Method 1

Tools/Raw Materials

Water, soap or detergent, vinegar, cooking oil, 75% alcohol

Methods/Steps

1. After cutting the peppers by hand, rinse your fingers with plenty of cold water as soon as possible to remove some of the heat and residual pepper liquid.

2. Next, you can wash your fingers with soap or detergent, which can alleviate the burning sensation.

3. Then apply vinegar on it. Don’t wash it off first. Wash it after a while, and then apply it again. The chili liquid will be washed off a little bit.

4. You can also use the cooking oil you have at home, such as peanut oil, sunflower oil, etc., because the chili liquid is fat-soluble, adding some cooking oil can neutralize part of it.

5. Then you can use 75% alcohol to apply on your hands evenly. Congratulations, the burning sensation will soon disappear.

6. Of course, I suggest you wear disposable gloves when cutting peppers to avoid the pain of burning.

Precautions

Don’t touch anything else after cutting the peppers, you know the consequences!

There is no one in the world who is not afraid of spicy food. After being exposed to spicy food for a long time, you will no longer be afraid of it.

Method 2:

Apply alcohol, vinegar, and hot water to wash your hands. The substance that produces the spicy taste in chili peppers is a type of capsaicin, which is collectively called capsaicin. When cutting peppers, capsaicin sticks to the skin, causing the capillaries to dilate, resulting in redness and heat of the skin, and accelerating the local metabolic rate. At the same time, it will stimulate the pain nerves, which is why we usually feel burning hands. Capsaicin is soluble in ethanol and alkaline aqueous solutions, but insoluble in cold water. In industry, capsaicin is extracted from chili peppers using edible alcohol as an extractant. Therefore, in life, you can apply alcohol to dissolve the capsaicin on your hands. After cutting peppers, you can wipe your hands in one direction with an alcohol cotton ball, then wash your hands with clean water, and then dry them. Do this three times until the symptoms are relieved. In addition, you can also wash your hands with a small amount of vinegar. Vinegar is acidic and can neutralize capsaicin. If there is no medical alcohol or vinegar, washing your hands with hot water is also a good idea, because capsaicin will produce irritating evaporation under high temperature. Although it is not as effective as alcohol and vinegar, it is worse than cold water. In fact, when cutting peppers, you can press the peppers with the tips of your fingers instead of pinching them with your fingernails. This way, your hands will not be easily burned.
