How long after the IVF night injection can I retrieve the eggs?

If a couple wants a child, it is not certain that they can get pregnant. Sometimes they may fail to get pregnant due to their natural constitution. At this time, they have to go for in vitro fertilization. During in vitro fertilization, they need to take night injections. This technology needs to be done before egg retrieval. The night injection is injected into the body at night, and the eggs can only be retrieved after 36 hours the next day. Because the eggs are the healthiest and most mature at this time, the chance of conception will be higher.

The night injection means that the follicles are mature and the time for egg retrieval needs to be arranged. Because the night injection is given at night, as the name suggests, it is referred to as the "night injection" in our department, and the professional term is called "trigger".

1. Egg retrieval usually takes place about 36 hours after the night injection. For example, if the egg is retrieved at 8 o'clock, the night injection should be taken 36 hours before the egg retrieval, which is at 8 o'clock the night before. Don't be nervous if the interval between egg retrieval and the night injection exceeds 36 hours, because it can be done within 36-37 hours.

2. The types of drugs used for night injections are not exactly the same. In most cases, chorionic gonadotropin is used. A small number of patients, such as antagonists or patients who intend to undergo luteal phase ovulation induction, can choose tropolezin. Some patients who undergo natural cycle egg retrieval can also use no drugs.

3. The dosage of night injection is not exactly the same. The commonly used chorionic gonadotropin ranges from 4000 to 10000 IU. The dosage is generally determined by the number of follicles, estrogen levels and other factors. The more follicles and the higher the estrogen level, the less the injection dose. This is because chorionic gonadotropin not only promotes the final maturation of follicles, but is also closely related to ovarian hyperstimulation. Therefore, the injection dose should be reduced for patients at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation.

4. The time of night injection cannot be wrong, otherwise it will indirectly affect the egg retrieval time; although most patients take night injections at night, the night injection time may be advanced for some patients such as natural cycles or micro-stimulation cycles. The injection may be given at noon or in the afternoon on the day of the night injection. No matter what time, the medication must be taken according to the doctor's instructions, otherwise it will affect the outcome of egg retrieval, such as premature ovulation, immature eggs, etc.

5. Between the night injection and egg retrieval, most patients do not need a follow-up visit and can return to the hospital on time for egg retrieval. However, some patients, such as those in natural cycle or micro-stimulation cycle, may repeatedly check estrogen and other related indicators on the day of the night injection and the next day. This arrangement is to arrange the egg retrieval time more reasonably.

6. Do not take any medication or stop taking any medication at will after the night injection. If you have any questions, consult a doctor. For example, our department will prescribe progesterone on the day of the night injection and let the patient take the medicine, but progesterone is not injected on the day of the night injection. Instead, it can only be used after egg retrieval. Remember not to inject before egg retrieval, otherwise the quality of the eggs will be greatly affected; some drugs cannot be discontinued at will. Some patients have chronic diseases (such as common hypothyroidism, hypertension, diabetes, anemia, etc.), and related therapeutic drugs should not be discontinued rashly due to night injections, otherwise poor control of the primary disease will also affect the transplant results.

7. Patients who take the night injection same-day antagonist regimen generally need to inject an antagonist. The injection of this drug can be done about 24 hours after the previous antagonist injection. A difference of 1-2 hours will not affect the effect.

8. After the night injection, if the man is unable to come to the hospital to sign and collect sperm on the day of egg retrieval due to sudden illness or other reasons, it is not recommended that the woman give up egg retrieval. She can choose to freeze the eggs and then thaw, fertilize and transplant the eggs when the man's time permits. If the eggs are not retrieved, first of all, the economic loss will be huge, and the cost of ovulation induction will be wasted. In addition, if the eggs are not retrieved, the ovaries will be too large and the estrogen level will remain high, which is more likely to cause ovarian overstimulation or even ovarian torsion, which will have adverse effects on the patient both physically and mentally.

I hope this knowledge can dispel some of your doubts and allow you to face the moment of egg retrieval with a more relaxed mood. Victory is just around the corner. I wish everyone good pregnancy.
