How does melanosis develop?

Melanosis is a common clinical disease. There are many types of this disease, and skin melanosis is particularly common. This disease is generally more common in women. The problem of melanosis must be taken seriously. If melanosis is not treated, it will have a direct impact on the patient's health, so the cause must be clarified before treatment. How does melanosis develop?

1. The cause has not yet been fully determined

Long-term exposure to tar, asphalt, petroleum and their derivatives can lead to inflammation of sunlight-exposed areas and changes in skin pigmentation due to the significant photosensitization effects of anthracene, phenanthrene, naphthalene and other compounds therein. Melanosis caused by tar compounds is also called tar melanosis. Some cosmetics contain mineral oils and hydrocarbon compounds, fragrances, preservatives, surfactants, etc. Some of them have photosensitizing effects and long-term contact can lead to the occurrence of melanosis. For some patients, no clear cause of the disease can be found.

2. Nature

Melanosis is a group of skin pigment metabolic diseases characterized by pigmentation of the skin in exposed areas. Generally, those who develop the disease due to occupational exposure are called occupational melanosis to distinguish it from non-occupational melanosis. Non-occupational melanosis is also known as Reil's melanosis. This disease mainly occurs on women's faces. It was once called "female facial melanosis" and later some people suggested calling it "pigmented cosmetic dermatitis." Occupational melanosis occurs mostly in workers exposed to tar and petroleum products. Its main manifestation is skin pigmentation accompanied by lichenoid papules or blisters, which is called lichenoid vesicular toxic melanin dermatitis.

3. Melanosis

Skin melanosis can be caused by the use of inferior cosmetics, long-term contact with petroleum or lubricating oils, or endocrine disorders and ovarian dysfunction in women. Regardless of the cause or manifestation, some people believe that it is related to hydrocarbon poisoning. It belongs to the category of dark spots in traditional Chinese medicine, and is caused by deficiency of water that cannot control fire, and weak blood that cannot nourish the flesh.
