What are the exercise methods for vertebral artery and cervical spondylosis?

Vertebral artery cervical spondylosis is a relatively common bone disease. It can easily affect normal blood flow and cause great harm to human health. Vertebral artery cervical spondylosis can be relieved through exercise. You can do some light exercises and usually keep your cervical spine active to achieve blood circulation.

Exercises for vertebral artery and cervical spondylosis

For cervical spondylosis of the radiculopathy type, spinal cord type, vertebral artery type, etc. in the onset period, symptoms such as pain, numbness, weakness in the upper limbs, inflexibility of the limbs, dizziness, etc. will appear. Exercise must be done with caution. At this time, flexion, extension and rotation movements of the cervical spine will often aggravate the symptoms. Therefore, patients with severe conditions are prohibited from exercising, especially backward bending exercises of the cervical spine. This is contrary to the common sense of patients. Even during the remission period of the disease, the amplitude of cervical spine backward bending exercises must be small.

In addition, when doing cervical spine exercises, the movements and postures do not have to be extremely complicated (the traditional Chinese character “鳯” is no more effective than the simple “十”), as long as it is simple and effective. Generally speaking, forward flexion and backward extension exercises are sufficient, and there is no need to rotate the cervical spine left and right or up and down.

Exercises for cervical spondylosis

1. Self-massage of the neck : Use the fingertips of both hands to massage, starting from the Fengchi point, along the muscles at the back of the neck, all the way to the Jianjing point on the shoulder. Repeat several times.

2. Head and hands fighting each other: Cross your hands and place them behind your neck. Slowly and forcefully extend your head and neck backwards while using your hands to push forward with a little force. Hold for 1-2 seconds, relax, and return the cervical spine to the neutral position. Repeat several times until you feel slight soreness in your neck and shoulder muscles. Don't overdo it.

Summarize the key points of cervical spine exercise :

1. The rhythm should be slow, the movements should be soft and powerful, and the range of leaning back should not be too large.

2. The movements are mainly based on extending the neck to strengthen the neck and shoulder muscles.

3. Exercise is mainly suitable for the remission period of cervical spondylosis of cervical type and other types of cervical spondylosis. Exercise should be stopped when the symptoms of other cervical spondylosis such as radiculopathy are severe.

Basic knowledge about cervical spondylosis and cervical functional exercise :

1. Cervical spondylosis is not a single disease, but includes many types: cervical type, nerve root type, sympathetic type, vertebral artery type, spinal cord type, mixed type, etc. Different types of cervical spondylosis have different exercise requirements.

2. Functional training of the cervical spine has two main functions and purposes: one is to promote blood circulation in the neck and shoulder muscles, eliminate local muscle fatigue, and prevent and relieve strain on the neck and shoulder muscles and ligaments. The second is to strengthen the neck and shoulder muscles and maintain the stability of the cervical vertebrae and joints.

3. The cervical spinal cord and nerve roots are located in the cervical vertebrae's spinal canal. When you bend forward, the volume of the cervical vertebrae's spinal canal increases slightly (this helps reduce the compression on the spinal cord and nerve roots). When you lean back, the volume of the spinal canal decreases slightly (this may lead to increased nerve compression).
