What causes vocal cord polyps

1. Causes

2. Pathology

At the beginning, tissue fluid accumulates in the potential space under the epithelium at the edge of the vocal cord membrane, resulting in local edema, vascular dilation and bleeding, followed by gradual pale edema-like, translucent hyaline degeneration or fibrous hyperplasia, forming oval or round vocal cord polyps, which are divided into two types: localized and generalized.

3. General treatment :

1. Actively treat respiratory infections and avoid excessive use of the throat, especially when suffering from acute laryngitis and during menstruation.

2. When lifting weights, do not hold your breath for too long to avoid over-straining your vocal cords.

3. Early stage patients should strictly refrain from speaking for 2-3 weeks, and after surgical treatment should strictly refrain from speaking for 1 week. After the wound heals, voice training should be performed immediately to correct incorrect voice methods and prevent recurrence.

3. Local treatment :

1. Steam or mist inhalation, use benzoin tincture, menthol spirit or potassium iodide, soda water for treatment.

2. Use chlorhexidine or iodine-containing throat lozenges to dissolve in the mouth.

3. Surgical treatment: Surgical treatment is the main treatment for this disease and is suitable for mature polyps.

4. Preventive Care

1. Treat acute laryngitis promptly to prevent it from becoming chronic.

2. Prevent excessive use of the voice. Teachers and artists should pay attention to the correct vocalization method, especially during a cold.

3. Strengthen labor protection and properly handle harmful gases, dust, etc. in the production process.

4. When the disease occurs, you should keep silent appropriately, avoid excessive use of your voice, quit smoking and drinking, and actively treat lesions in adjacent organs.
