Clinical manifestations of facial spasm

Clinical manifestations of facial spasm

The incidence of facial spasm in life is also very high, and the onset is accompanied by obvious symptoms. When facial nerve spasm occurs, patients should not panic or get nervous, but go to a regular hospital for examination and treatment in time, which will have better results in treating the disease.

1. Eyelash sign: Ask the patient to close his eyes forcefully. When a normal person closes his eyes forcefully, his eyelashes are mostly buried in the upper and lower eyelids. When the facial nerve is paralyzed, the eyelashes are exposed. Especially in the case of mild paralysis, if you close your eyes tightly, the asymmetry of eyelashes is not obvious at first, but after a short period of time, the eyelashes on the mildly paralyzed side will slowly appear, which is called a positive eyelash sign.

2. Eyelid tremor: Close both eyes forcefully, and the examiner will pull the upper eyelids open with force. At this time, a slight muscle contracture and tremor may be felt on one side of the upper eyelid, but not on the other side. The presence of this symptom of facial nerve paralysis indicates mild facial nerve paralysis, which is more common in peripheral facial nerve paralysis.

3. Blinking movement (incomplete eye closure): Careful observation of the patient's blinking can reveal asymmetric blinking movements on both sides, which is a significant phenomenon. If the patient is asked to blink, the blinking movement will be slow and incomplete on the mildly paralyzed side. 4. Oblique oval mouth sign: Ask the patient to open his mouth wide. When there is mild facial nerve paralysis, the corner of the mouth on the affected side droops to form an oblique oval-shaped mouth. The difference between the oblique oval mouth caused by trigeminal motor branch paralysis and the oval mouth caused by trigeminal motor branch paralysis is that there is no mandibular deviation. This sign is not obvious in central facial nerve paralysis.
